Reviewed 23 May 2011

The hotel made the function room into a themed room, it looked absolutely fabulous, you felt special from the moment you walked in. It was airy, bright, comfortable and the table decorations eyecatching yet discreet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the management went out of their way to make our night unforgetable.

My husband and I are not very fussy when it comes to hotels, as long as it is clean and is good value for money we're not bothered about decor or superficial things. As a 3 star hotel we were not expecting anything grand and knew that not all rooms would be like the ones on the website as forewarned by Trip advisor but we did at least expect a good standard of cleanliness. Unfortunately the bathroom was not very clean. I have an extremely good nose and could smell something bad so I decided to inspect the toilet closer and noticed that not only was there still some wee on the inside of the seat and as I was kneeling I noticed there was also dried on diarrheoa down the outside of the pan. As it was late I ended up having to wipe this up myself! I then tried to get into the shower with difficulty as the handle was missing. My husband had to reach to the top of the door to pull it open as I was not tall enough. The actual room was ok. it had dated wallpaper which we expected but it was in need of revamping as it was peeling in several places and there was a hole in the wall by the door. As it was a hot night it was also quite stiffling as the ceiling was low and the windows didn't open very wide. We got our money back though by the breakfast. This was good and we tried to get our money's worth after such a poor show with the room by eating as much as we could! In terms of location, it was easy to find. Staff were friendly.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a refurbished room.

We stayed over Easter we were with a group of twenty eight of us.
The food was either frozen or tinned or from a packet and every meal was served with chips
except when they had the cheek to serve a ploughmans as the main course of an evening meal. we were promised evening entertainment which never materialised .the beds were old and worn out for the most part there was a constant going to the desk because the key cards kept failing. the wardrobes were a rail on the wall in alcove with no doors. The showers were black at the bottom lack of thorough cleaningThis trip was organised by OPAL Holidays. will never return.

I have just come back from this hotel and what an eye opener. On arrival we were greeted with no greeting with no explaination of breakfast times etc and a very bland welcome. The first room we were given was smelly, old and the bathroom was awful, it was room 106. We complained to the reception (after paying over £100 for one night )and explained at being very disappointed at the standard of room for the price he wasnt in the least bit interested ,however we were given another room (109), this wasnt much better. Lack of curtains at the bathroom windows, tv had no sound, windows dirty and paintwork tatty however nice view of the gardens. However we thought for other hotels we have stayed in for similar money the breakfast would have been nice....omg what a shambles the greeting was non excistance the tables werent set the tables chipped and dirty from previous diners. The breakfast had two fruits and awful scramble eggs swimming in water and bacon piled high and it smelt old. It is is the worse breakfast I have ever had! if we would have paid £40 we may have thought oh well but this is an over priced waste of money and ive never stayed in anywhere that is total waste of money...very disappointed...if there would have been anybody on the reception I would have complained again however like throughout our stay this seems to be lacking...this hotel needs a new management team that needs to empower their staff more and breed some self worth and this will hopefully reflect in the running of this hotel.Paul Harris

All feedback is important to us, I regret to read that you didnt feel that our hotel met your expectations as we work very hard to ensure that we meet and exceed where possible the standards expected in a 3* property. If you decide to return to Liverpool again, I would be delighted if you would consider using The Devonshire House with a promise of a more satisfactory stay.

I recently stayed here for a hen party so I wasn't expecting the ritz. The grounds are very nice and the reception area was lovely however the decor everywhere else is not only dated but also falling apart. Some of our party were given a room where the radiator was stuck on and it transpired the problem had been reported several weeks ago and it hadn't yet been fixed. However because the hotel was full they felt it was ok to put guests into that room where they would obviously be uncomfortable. When trying to resolve the issue with the reception staff they were simply rude and confrontational.

The rooms were clean enough and the breakfast the next morning was mediocre at best and certainly not worth the asking price. It was ok for a single nights stay on a hen weekend but I wouldn't recommend it for anything more.

Stayed here for one night in Feb, as we had an early appointment in Liverpool the next day.

The location of the hotel is great - easy to find and close to everything.

Upon arrival, the receptionist was very friendly as she allocated our room. We had requested a room with a shower cubicle, which we weren't given, but the girl on reception changed us very quickly with no problem and lots of apologies.

The room was fine - very large, and more importantly, very clean. The decor was pretty neutral although the furniture was a bit dated.

The decor in corridors and bar area is very old fashioned, but everywhere is kept very clean. The bar area is nice, and although we didn't eat in the restaurant the menu looked reasonably priced and there was plenty of choice.

Overall, this hotel is fine for the price, we would stay again if we needed to stay in Liverpool overnight again.
