“Great little hotel in central location”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

I had a short stay at this hotel. It was very busy with lots of people checking in at the same time. I was most impressed with the young man on reception (Jake) who was so helpful, pleasant and courteous in quite difficult circumstances. He was a great ambassador for the front of house service. The hotel itself could do with a new face as looks a little tired. However great value for money.

The location is great. The bed comfy, but the room was shabby. The bathroom was the worst I've stayed in. Tiles missing from the bathroom, mouldy tiles around the bath, the window frame was mouldy too. And it wasn't cheap. Best Westerns always do great breakfasts and this one has a huge choice. We won't stay there again. It's back to the Racquet Hotel or Travel Lodge for us.

Room Tip: Don't stay in room 3 on the ground floor.

Staff were extremely friendly, particularly Laura on reception, who was very enthusiastic and welcoming. Porters all very hard working and polite, couldn't do enough for you! We stayed in an executive room in the Nautical wing. Nicely decorated but absolutely tiny, despite being one of the "larger" rooms! Very noisy on road side of building. Roasting hot with no air con. Got no sleep on our first night due to heat and outside noise; woken up every hour! Borrowed a fan from reception on our second night which was very noisy but preferable to the sweltering heat! Good breakfast with lots of variety and quantity. Bar completely empty both nights; such a shame as it's a lovely, modern space. NB/ Avoid this hotel if you're unfit!!!!! There are no lifts due to it being a period property, and our room was up two flights of steep stairs. 15 minute walk into town; decent location. Oh, also, if you park in the hotel's miniature car park, it costs you an additional £10 per night, and you have to leave your car keys at reception "in case of emergencies". What they DON'T tell you is that the porters move your car about without your permission so as to let other people out, etc. We didn't mind this, but it would have been nice to be asked! Several disgruntled customers due to this. Would probably go back here, but only if we got another voucher deal. Absolutely 100% NOT worth the going rate!

The only negative point about our stay in Liverpool was this hotel. Even though the decor has been modernised, it's already looking worn, the chair in our room was damaged on the corner and the furniture scuffed around the edges. Our room was small, cramped and quite dark, it really needed lighter coloured decor. It was fairly clean except for the bathroom window which had black mould all round the edges. Wi-Fi connection was good.
Looking back, I found this hotel disappointing, comparing it to other weekend breaks in other city hotels, including budget hotels in London. From looking at it, I wouldn't guess it was a Best Western considering the standard of a couple of their hotels we've stayed in in Greece.

Only 10 -15 minutes walk to the centre of the city, meaning you don't have all the hustle and bustle on your doorstep if your looking for peace and quiet whilst still being close to all the attractions.

Staff are so friendly and helpful, especially Laura and Stephen who helped us when we arrived on the Sunday afternoon. As we didn't know much about the area we asked many questions about local restaurants and places to visit and the help that was given was great.

We had an Executive room, however I will say that to me it just seemed a normal room with a bathrobe and slippers as an added bonus. Room was quite small, however we were out all day so not a major problem. No lift in the hotel and we were on a top floor, however the offer to take our bags up to the room was given to us.

Breakfast was excellent, buffet style however all very well laid out and all very tasty. Option of continental and cooked, we asked for something off menu and nothing was too much trouble.

Only down side was that being slightly further out of town there was less choice of places to eat however we found taxi's to be very good value so for around £3-4 you could get into the centre and there were plenty of choices there.

All in all a nice hotel, if a little old fashioned in areas, however very friendly staff which makes for a good trip away.

Just returned from a break which we got through a daily deal and we are glad we upgraded to the executive room for size & comfort although it was a 'bit worn', not what you would really expect from this style of room, I only booked it for the 4 poster bed as my wedding anniversary.
This hotel is approx 10-20 minute walk from city centre which is quite good.
The lady who checked us in on our arrival was lovely and very helpful. Something the young guy on desk could learn from, he was abrupt and at times came across as ignorant, in that we were disturbing him...
The room was clean (ish) I did find a beer bottle cap lying on floor??
The bed was Comfy but the drapes were to dark for the room, they could've done so much more this with this room if they had gone down modern route instead
Of traditional. The only light was 2 bedside lamps which didn't really give the same light. We couldn't open the sash windows as they wouldn't stay opened unless you
Wedged something in.
The desk was covered in ring marks, they only sockets ( sorry SOCKET) were on floor under the desk! Not suitable.
The bathroom was clean but again dated, the wash basin & side of bath had cracks on them though the bath had been attempted to be repaired was not what you expect from an 'executive room'. Also we did not have any tea / coffee making facilities in our room although you would've been able to use a kettle even if they had.
We booked 3 course dinner as part of package and can only describe the servers as something from
Fawlty towers, I couldn't remember what our dinner package included and when asked they didn't know either. When asked for drinks /
Wine list was told they didn't have one? Was told we could have anything from menu but steak would be £3 upgrade, However when I ordered the steak they came back and advised me it was £5 extra!!! I politely refused. Good
Point though their servings are
Massive, possibly too big, and my personal pet hate is eating from wood chopping boards, but it was totally impractical to eat of the board with the amount of food
Supplied, something the kitchen / management should look at.
Breakfast was also very good, although having to order eggs separately is a bit of nuisance so I didn't do it. The cooked breakfast was buffet style and very worth the
Price.
Overall, I think this hotel would appeal to an older clientele due to decor etc
If they want to attract the younger professional couple, they need to sort out electric sockets, Improve customer service, bring the property up to a modern decor.
I would probably stay here again,
But only a deal, I wouldn't pay their full normal prices.
My advice to best western from someone who has worked in the hospitality field is you need to spend a bit of money on the hotel to bring it up to modern standards, as well as looking at staff training for reception/ front of house!

Booked this hotel through a groupon deal and then upgraded a week before we arrived. When we got there the welcome was really friendly. We got to our room (N9) and we're very impressed with the room and the real rose petals scattered on the bed plus a card and Ferraro Rocher chocs, 2 mins later one of the staff came up with 2 small bottles of prosecco for us to celebrate our anniversary. The staff were helpful and extremely pleasant. Breakfast was really nice...plenty of choice. We would return without a doubt.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade....
