Owner description: A 15-minute walk from its Anglican counterpart along Hope Street, 1960s' "futurism" best describes the exterior of what's locally know as "Paddy's Wigwam." The huge interiors illuminated by natural light through the exquisite stained glass is worth the journey itself.

I spent 4 weeks of April-May 2014 visiting mostly cathedrals and museums in England, Wales and Scotland. This is the only one that is Roman Catholic, the rest are Anglican Cathedrals. What fascinated me is learning from my tour guide at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral that they have excellent working relationships with this Catholic Cathedral. Services would start in one Cathedral and end in the other one. Both of them are Christian Cathedrals so Ecumenism at work or what?

The decorations are the Metropolitan Cathedral are simple, modern, unique and different from most Catholic Cathedrals and Churches that I have visited in my other travels. The latter usually have several statues of Jesus, Mary, and other saints.

My hope is that one day I could participate in this joint services of both Cathedrals. That must be a wonderful experience!

“Liverpool "Funnel" welcomes the new Archbishop”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

The Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral was the venue for the closing Mass and end of the recent family caring Catholic mens group the Catenians annual conference held in May 2014. This was also the first public Mass said by the newly installed Archbishop. A double celebration!

“Love it or Loathe it”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Whilst the Cathedral has stunning and has an atmosphere of tranquility and reflectiveness, I found the story behind the initial building of the Cathedral, the problems on its opening and the subsequent restoration really the most interesting part of my visit. Unfortunately the crypt was closed during May and I therefore didn't get to see it. Personally I loved it but I can see why it effects others differently especially at a time of economic hardship and the costs involved in building it and keeping it running.

“Awe inspiring architecture”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Popped in to see paddy's wigwam in recent visit to Liverpool. Was gob smacked by the place. What a great example of modern architecture. The use of light around the cathedral from the red and blue stained glass was wonderful. The art on display around the walls was fantastic, especially the metal depictions of the crucifixion. The crypt was closed when we were there, which was a shame.
