Owner description: A former school tucked away in the city center. One of the oldest and most attractive buildings in Liverpool now plays host to contemporary art and performance displays. The rear secret garden is a tranquil, picturesque place to take a breather from the surrounding hubbub.

“A little gem, hidden in full view!”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

The Bluecoat is a little gem tucked away in the heart of Liverpool city centre, yet it's hidden in full view of Lord Street with its busy shops and even busier shoppers. It's so lovely and so atmospheric - whether you're part of a tour or just pop in for a breath of fresh air in the delightful courtyard garden, and whether you choose to explore the offerings of the multi-talented artisans or visit an exhibition of modern art. You could, of course, go upstairs for a delicious sounding lunch or dinner, or you could just follow our example and have a simple breakfast of tea or coffee and thick slices of hot buttered toast and sit and watch the world go by for a while. Sheer heaven. And just the ticket after a late night exploring the many delights of Liverpool after dark.

“The Bluecoat: new art in the oldest building in Liverpool”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

The Bluecoat is a site that includes shops, gallery displays, a wonderful garden, coffee shop, and outstanding exhibits. When I was there, they were featuring an exhibit of Whistler's work. Besides the shops held by friendly and enthusiastic artisans, there is a charming cafe and a flower filled garden area to relax and eat in. Some parents had brought their children and were showing the young ones that varieties of arts and media. Such a clam and welcoming place.

“Great venue”
Reviewed 7 June 2014 via mobile

The Bluecoat is an interesting venue for any modern art offichonaro visiting Liverpool.

The collection is very avantgarde and certainly not to everyone's choice.

However well worth a expedition?

“Walking tour or Liverpool.”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

A really interesting tour of Liverpool with two very knowledgeable guides. Even though I have lived in Liverpool for a number of years they pointed out things which I had never noticed before (even though I pass them nearly every day!) A very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon and I will sign up for the next one!
