“Special indeed!”

Princes Road Synagogue
Reviewed 30 December 2013 via mobile

The dark and subdued exterior of the building is in total contrast to its ornate and beautifully decorated colorful interior. We really enjoyed our guided visit to this majestic historic synagogue. With falling numbers of active members in the Liverpool Jewish community it is probably getting more difficult to maintain the upkeep of this lovely place. Therefore we were happy to pay a small fee for the lovely personal tour in order to help contribute. Well worth taking the time to visit.

This building is quite unique. Liverpool's oldest synagogue still in regular use has an interior that us truly breathtaking. Guided tours, by prior arrangement, give a fascinating insight into the building's history and a chance to learn a little about the traditions and practices of Orthodox Judaism.

Just visited the Princes Road Synagogue as part of the Heritage open day ( free entry ) it turned out to be an amazing experience having lived not far from this church but never having been inside, the lady guide made our visit more interesting with her knowlage all about how the Synagogue was built with donations from the congregation, one of the biggest benifactors was John Lewis of the very famous Lewis's stores. the inside is buetifull and very ornate so if you get the chance please give it a go. I picked up a leaflet after our visit and noticed its open during the week
The Synogogue is open for tours if booked in advance

we visited the synagogue as a group on a culture trip the rabbi was so helpful and well informed, he explained the workings of the synagogue and its daily routine.
unfortunately for, he said, security reasons we were not allowed to take photos, pity its a lovely building inside
