Had a long weekend to see the sights, watch football, and chill out. Good value hotel with nice rooms and good atmosphere in the bar. Good Breakfast, excellent service and plenty to do in Waterloo.

Will use this hotel again and again

We have previously stayed in the Wellington suite here but in many ways the (cheaper) room we had this time overlooking Marine Gardens was more up-to-date and had good views over the river to the Wirral. The staff are friendly and the breakfast was OK. It is easy to get into Central Liverpool on the train from Waterloo station in South Road about 10 minutes from the hotel. The bar does food at lunch and in the evening and is very popular with locals. A good bet if you are looking for a base in the area.

Thank you for your review.

We have since made all double rooms the same rate as we appreciate that our newly refurbished rooms were better than the 4 poster ones. Regards Gordon

Stayed at the Royal for 2 nights with my husband and grown up daughter for 2 nights from the 4-5 June. We were there as my brother was getting married and they stayed in the hooneymoon suite.

We had a triple room (No.9), which consisted of a double sofa bed (very comfortable so my daughter said) and two single beds, also comfortable. The room was lovely new carpeting decor very good, bathroom not bad in space, big mirror and a dressing table with mirror, hairdryer, tea facilities and free wifi which is a bonus! the only draw back on the room was that it was a very warm weekend and there is no air con, a small electric fan is provided, there are two large sash windows but only one opens and that you have to prop open with something as it doesn't stay open on it's own!!! The room was quiet as well, even with the window open!

Hotel is beautifull full of old charm, from a lovely old staircase to sparkly (clean) chandiliers in the dining room , but it is also modern, apart from air con in bedrooms and a lift to the floors, but this I was told is because it is a grade II listed building, the lack of a lift stops it from being upgraded to a 4 ****.

Breakfast was very good, a very good selection of fresh fruit and juice, cereals and toast and cooked breakfast which i might add was HOT . The "waiting" staff very friendly and helpfull.

Reception staff very helpfull and willing to help if the need arises. Special mention to the "clening" ladies who were most helpfull with extra fans for the bridal suite and giving us local knowledge on shops, very friendly, thankyou.

All in all very impressed by this hotel and it's "old fashioned" but modern granduer. One point I would like to make other than the air con, is that the hotel web site definiatly needs updating with fresh photo's as the rooms are so much better in real life!

Take a walk to the Victorian park over the road and look back at the lovely old buildings, you can get a sense of what it was like in the Victorian age, then walk 5 minutes further up the road to the sand dunes and to the Antony Gormley "another place" statue's that a on the Crosby beach and in the sea, quiet errie as there are loads of them!!!. Beach could have been alot cleaner though!!

Six of us stayed here when attending a family wedding. We were given a chance of a reduced rate at the Hilton but chose this hotel as we knew the position in Liverpool is superb, on a quiet beach(hosting Gormley's 100 iron men), with views to North Wales, but only about ten minutes in to the city centre. The food is very good; nothing adventurous, but plentiful and of top quality. The steaks were excellent and the breakfast very good in terms of quality of ingredients. The staff were extremely friendly and willing to help and please. The rooms had all been refurbished recently and were of a high standard of fittings. Some had the traditional red decor which is not to everyone's taste. Most had good sea views. We shall certainly stay here again if we want to do something in Liverpool as we could not find a better location and will save a lot of cash when compared to the city centre hotels. Thoroughly recommended.

Great location on Crosby beach, with Antony Gormley's "Another Place" only a few hundred yards across the dunes.
The hotel is well run by efficient, competent and welcoming staff. Room was very quiet, spotless, nicely decorated with good view across the water and Liverpool in the distance.
Good breakfast, but we didn't sample the restaurant.
Very tempted though to come back for their "Waterloo dinner" special in June, with Beef Wellington on the menu!
