Last minute decision to go out for tea and thought we'd try The Elephant as it's nearby and we'd heard good things. Initially I was quite skeptical having visited it about 6yrs ago when it was a dire, dark and depressing place serving equally dire tapas. What an refreshing change! It is now a delightful place to be. Very simple decor, wooden floors, leather chairs. Very welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff.
Help yourself water available which is a nice touch.
Our daughter was immediately drawn towards the collection of board games and wanted to play everything.
Menu is short and simple. Great classics like fish and chips, steak and chips, homemade burgers. Plus the best pizzas! Children's menu available too.
I ordered the margarita pizza with anchovy and olive topping. I couldn't believe the size of it when it arrived! Plus the anchovies were fresh not the salted variety which was even better. Perfectly cooked- lovely thin and crispy base. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Husband ordered chorizo and jalapeño pizza- again fantastic. Chopped up chorizo and spicy jalapeños covered it!
We ordered the children's burger and chips- too big for our 5yr old. Also they put a sauce on it (bit like that thousand islands sauce) which she didn't like so be sure to ask without sauce if your child likes a plain burger. Once said sauce was scrapped off she wolfed most of it down! It was a homemade burger- delicious.
Couldn't manage dessert but will definitely be back to try more. They do Sunday roasts with locally sourced meats for £9.95 so would like to give that a shot next.
I loved the relaxed atmosphere and board games to keep kids (and adults!) amused! First impressions are really good.
