“Great Family Weekend! ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

We went to Liverpool to celebrate my husbands birthday and we had a fantastic time! The hotel was great, our room was lovely and we had more than enough space for myself, hubby and little boy. The food was good in the restaurant and we were made to feel very welcome. We would definitely stay here again.

Recently stayed with husband and little one for a weekend break. Area is charming with lots of restaurants and 10 min walk to city and docks, and overnight parking is available 5 minutes away by the cathedral. Overall we liked this hotel and would return. Most things were great, however a few things could easily be improved.

The good:
First impression of staff was great with prompt and informative responses to emails, check in quick and fairly welcoming.
Had requested a cot in room and it was set-up on arrival with baby blankets and a towel which was lovely.
Room was clean and had lots of character with exposed brick walls (the standard king felt spacious enough even for the three of us) and had good quality toiletries from Ren and my favourite biscuits from Border.
DVDs are available to borrow to room (great for kids).
Breakfast included in room cost could be had as room service.
Had dinner in room one night which arrived quickly, was delicious and well presented, definitely worth the money!

The not so good:
The breakfast we ordered to the room initially looked perfect, but half the fruit plate turned out to have mouldy bits on it which made me sceptical about the rest of the food! Also lacked any extras like butter, ketchup, salt/pepper. (Left a note pointing out the fruit issue but not sure anyone took notice).
Spoons in room were dirty, some milk containers were half used, and on the second day there were no spoons at all which made it hard to make coffee (you get the tea bag-style coffee in room).
Toiletries were not replenished after first night despite us having used it all up.
Staff forgot our room service drinks order one night and the long wait made us wish that there was a mini-bar (none in room).
Wifi-code had been changed from that in info-leaflet but nobody told us.
We didn't realise that morning newspapers came at a cost until check-out.

These are all mostly small issues that understandably could be simple mistakes, but having to chase things steals energy and takes some of the charm away.

All in all a nice place in a city that has lots of personality.

Good service, friendly staff, bed comfy, great shower and the room was nice & clean.
Only downside, was that we weren't offered an internet code. We asked for fresh milk and it was brought to our room. The rooms were nice and quiet.

Dear Nigel W, Thank you for your positive post. Apologies for the slip with the WiFi code, our WiFi is complimentary and the code should have been in your room - all staff members also know it, it is a FAQ!

The staff were very helpful and offered advice & guidance on where to go. The room was clean and comfortable. Good location, not too far to walk into the town centre with lots of resturants and bars within easy reach. Only downside ws the limited parking on site which meant parking at the Cathedral which is about 5 mins walk away from the hotel.

Lots of space in the room and bathrooms. All beautifully updated and well maintained. King sized bed was so big I couldn't find my husband. :) Great location. We did not eat in the hotel, so I can't say anything about the dining experience. But there were many pleasant restaurants in walking distance. Will stay here again if ever in Liverpool! We flew to Manchester from Atlanta, GA and took a train to Liverpool. We were able to walk to the hotel from the train station.

Excellent service from early check in and baggage drop off, to leaving champagne in the room. The staff are warm, welcoming and friendly.

The suite was excellent with everything we needed. A great location with fantastic views of the city. Comfy bed, excellent bathroom facilities. Breakfast was very tasty also.

Room Tip: If you can get a room at the back of the hotel and on the higher floors, you will have great views o...

When you stay in so many top class hotels, the service is all the same characterless perfect service.

The Hope Street is different, as most of the staff are local or students at the nearby University. So it is at a higher level, you rarely get even in a five-star hotel.

I am a coeliac and are thus gluten-free. In all my travels, I've never found another hotel that bakes its own gluten-fre bread. They make their own ice cream too!

A couple of years ago, I went there for a University reception and dinner. I've eaten such dinners in four star hotels, stately homes and Cambridge colleges, but their's was of a standard to beat most other places. In my 67 years, I've only ever been to one better reception and that was a Queen's Award one at Buckingham Palace.

It's not important, but it does seem to have the best TV system, I've ever found in a hotel.

Room Tip: \tell them what you like and I'm sure they'll find you something to your taste. I've nev...
