“Nice new hotel but some teething problems”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

Stayed in September on a £99 one night offer which included evening meal which included bottle of wine and free use of local fitness centre.
Lovely listed building that has been brought up to modern standards but in a rundown part of the City. Very friendly front of house staff. Nicely decorated room but had some faults even though hotel had just recently opened. These faults were noted by duty manager who said they were rectifying problems that guests pointed out.
Concierge service for parking car but cost £12, but were allowed to pick up the car and luggage a few hours after we had checked out.
Had Sunday afternoon looking round Liverpool. Handy for waterfront and Liverpool One and Matthew Street just a short walk away.
Returned to hotel and fancied a steam and sauna in fitness centre. Had already enquired what time it closed and was told 6 pm. Arrived at 5:30 only to be told that all the covers were on and the place had been cleaned and was shutting for the night!!
So we got poshed up for our romantic evening meal in the Brasserie. This was the biggest let down, the brasserie is basically a 'sports' dining room come bar with plush seats. Three large tv screens above the bar, one off, one showing Spanish football (with sound muted) and the other tuned in to a music channel playing chart sounds - not a romantic setting. One barman/waiter who didn't know what meal plan we were on and who only seemed interested in selling us cocktails for £9 (but could do them for half price)! Empty used plates stacked up on the bar. Ordered a drink and looked at the menu we were given which was totally different from the one we had looked at on the website. On a plus note the bottle of wine we chose that was part of our deal was a delicious and quite expensive Pinot Grigio!
To save a long story the a la carte food we ordered was awful and we ended up ordering a gourmet burger and fish and chips from the bar menu which, according to the waiter, were the best dishes in the house! The duty manager was very apologetic and offered us another bottle of the nice and expensive bottle of Pinot Grigio!
Breakfast ok but lukewarm and staff not very attentive.
Given that this is a new hotel and a new venture for the owner we would hope that the teething problems will be sorted. We would give it a second chance if visiting Liverpool as it has the potential to be a major player in the City, we'll see how the reviews go!
We have just had a similar deal at a hotel in Bowness (see Fayrer review) and to be honest there is no comparison and the Richmond needs to improve in certain areas.
NB We've given the overall service an average marking as the good front of house service was let down by dining room service.

Last minute choice, stayed last night just for one night with a friend. I initially picked it because it had spa access, over the road and it was a good price.
It was valet parking, so no worries about where to park the car (charge for this of course, as you would expect in any City Centre). Receptionist and concierge really pleasant and the communal areas were attractive.
The room was 154 and a twin room, it was lovely-really stylish The room was spacious, clean and warm and the bathroom was excellent with Body Shop toiletries and a great shower. There was also a massive smart TV in the room-if you were staying more than one night, this could be really good. There were also chandeliers everywhere (I am a massive sucker for chandeliers). I slept really well so don't think there could have been much noise and the beds and bedding were really comfortable too.
We didn't eat or use the bar whilst we were there so can't comment on that, but we did use the spa (couldn't book in for any treatments as left it too late so advise you book well in advance) it has a sauna, steam room, 2 jacuzzi pools and a plunge pool. It was gorgeous and really relaxing, but quite small so don't know what it would be like on a busier day.
Hotel also only 10 minutes walk from shops and maybe a few minute further for the docks.
Really enjoyed both the Richmond and Liverpool, definitely want to come back and stay again soon and will be recommending to everybody :)

The Richmond staff are friendly and most helpful. The room was clean and quiet. A bit dark and it was difficult to work the TV remote. Otherwise would definately go back. More weekend away than business hotel.

Having stayed at this hotel for a night a few weeks ago I thought I would write a review about this hotel.

I work in a large hotel chain and the problem with these sights is that people are quick to complain on this after check out, but if you let staff know whilst at the hotel more can be done to resolve your problem...

The hotel is fantastic! From start to finish the Richmond is lovely! Easy to find, close to the main shopping street. Check in was quick and informative a pre authorisation was done like at all other hotels. The staff were fantastic and professional, management should be proud! We would like to thank you for making the stay so lovely. The room was massive with lovely high ceilings. The evening meal was first class!!

The only problem was that it was only one night!!

We look forward to coming back very soon!! :)

Just going to list good - bad

Good:
lovely lovely staff
large comfy beds/pillows
large apartment
use of spa across road
nice toiletries

Bad:
water poured out of shower (soaked carpet in bedroom)
no shower in 3rd en suite - so that left one shower for a possible 6 residents
no mirrors apart from bathroom - impossible to do hair (with hairdryer/straighteners) or see yourself full length
not able to see out of frosted windows
scaffolding outside window
no lift up to room - had to drag bags up 2 small flights of stairs
no microwave, tea towels or dishcloth
no waste bins in my bedroom/bathroom
spa smelt of damp and was a bit dingy
lipstick on wine glasses
middle of tap fell out in my hand
bit of a walk to shops/nightlife etc

Room Tip: book a room elsewhere plenty to chose from
