Stayed in September on a £99 one night offer which included evening meal which included bottle of wine and free use of local fitness centre.
Lovely listed building that has been brought up to modern standards but in a rundown part of the City. Very friendly front of house staff. Nicely decorated room but had some faults even though hotel had just recently opened. These faults were noted by duty manager who said they were rectifying problems that guests pointed out.
Concierge service for parking car but cost £12, but were allowed to pick up the car and luggage a few hours after we had checked out.
Had Sunday afternoon looking round Liverpool. Handy for waterfront and Liverpool One and Matthew Street just a short walk away.
Returned to hotel and fancied a steam and sauna in fitness centre. Had already enquired what time it closed and was told 6 pm. Arrived at 5:30 only to be told that all the covers were on and the place had been cleaned and was shutting for the night!!
So we got poshed up for our romantic evening meal in the Brasserie. This was the biggest let down, the brasserie is basically a 'sports' dining room come bar with plush seats. Three large tv screens above the bar, one off, one showing Spanish football (with sound muted) and the other tuned in to a music channel playing chart sounds - not a romantic setting. One barman/waiter who didn't know what meal plan we were on and who only seemed interested in selling us cocktails for £9 (but could do them for half price)! Empty used plates stacked up on the bar. Ordered a drink and looked at the menu we were given which was totally different from the one we had looked at on the website. On a plus note the bottle of wine we chose that was part of our deal was a delicious and quite expensive Pinot Grigio!
To save a long story the a la carte food we ordered was awful and we ended up ordering a gourmet burger and fish and chips from the bar menu which, according to the waiter, were the best dishes in the house! The duty manager was very apologetic and offered us another bottle of the nice and expensive bottle of Pinot Grigio!
Breakfast ok but lukewarm and staff not very attentive.
Given that this is a new hotel and a new venture for the owner we would hope that the teething problems will be sorted. We would give it a second chance if visiting Liverpool as it has the potential to be a major player in the City, we'll see how the reviews go!
We have just had a similar deal at a hotel in Bowness (see Fayrer review) and to be honest there is no comparison and the Richmond needs to improve in certain areas.
NB We've given the overall service an average marking as the good front of house service was let down by dining room service.
