3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

We stayed two nights and was woken both nights with a siren going off about 5am first time my husband nearly had a heart attack we ask staff about this and was told it often happens when people come in after a night out and start cooking it was just no sorry just to be accepted the breakfast on both mornings was poorly presented on the Buffett and staff ran out of egg ran out of plates and had to wait for more coffee etc don't get me wrong nice hotel and nice staff just need more training

Large room, comfortable beds, pleasant staff. But luxury in my book does not have dirty windows overlooking a brick wall and a damp wall! The fire alarm went off both nights, the lights all fused and the room card did not work. Neither did the car park redemption card. A little more attention to detail is required I think, to bring what could be a nice hotel, up to standard?

The hotel is in a quiet street and looks very old fashioned from the front, however the reception and bar/restaurant are very modern with black and white décor - I liked it, it was welcoming and also quite unusual if that makes sense! Reception were very friendly and had our room ready for us even though it was only just after midday. The room was on the 4th floor and is called an apartment but it was actually a very small room - I wouldn't have been happy with the size of the room had I been staying more than one night. The double bed was a small double and was up against the wall on one side due to the lack of space - so my husband (who got the wall side!) said he felt very claustrophobic - other than that the bed was comfortable. The décor in the room was nice and everything was clean with plenty of cupboard space and the bathroom was lovely - very spacious with lovely new, modern fittings. The TV on the wall was huge, although we had to sit sideways on the bed to watch it due to the room being so small. There was no mirror in the room except for in the bathroom - a large mirror on the opposite wall to the TV would have made the room appear larger and would have been very useful too! A nice touch was the mini fridge with 2 x free bottles of mineral water and a small bottle of milk for tea and coffee. We ended up having a disturbed nights sleep as the fire alarm went off at 4am - it only lasted for about 15 seconds but being on the 4th floor it was quite worrying - should we or shouldn't we evacuate?! We checked outside and realised nothing was going on and no one else was evacuating but it wasn't so easy to sleep after that! We enquired about it the next morning and were informed that a 'drunk guest had fallen asleep whilst something was cooking' - this will obviously have been in one of the rooms that had kitchen facilities. Our room rate didn't include breakfast but it smelt good when we checked out! Easy walking distance to the main centre - we were 5 minutes walk from the Cavern Club, and another 5 minutes into the Liverpool One the main shopping area and that is also very close to the Albert Docks which we really enjoyed.

Fantastic location, close to city centre. Clean, modern and quiet. Lovely comfy beds. Nice extras, toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary milk, water etc. Good car parking discount a couple of streets away. Efficient and friendly service. Everything I expect from a hotel, perfect, thank you!

Booked directly and this was completed professionally and politely.

Checking in was straight forward. The immediate impression is of a grand building with nice interior and great staff.

I had booked an apartment simply to avoid eating out and to ensure I could cook a low fat ready meal. The apartment was spacious and nicely furnished. But wait a Kitchener without a microwave! Just want simple and quick no messing around. Ok so an oven cooked meal instead.

Which I did, the next challenge was how to get the dinner out of the oven. No Oven glove! Ok use a hand towel or tea towel? Neither present in the apartment so it was a rather nice bath sheet that helped the main course from the oven.

Then settle down to watch TV on the smart TV while doing a bit of work. The TV, which is nicely framed as a smoked mirror is great quality. But the very ornate main light creates massive amount of glare so it has to be turned off if you want to see any of the picture. Therefore making it difficult to work!

Three really annoying small things which really show the management have never tried the accommodation they provide.

So much promise and poor delivery.

Would I stay again, probably yes if I was struggling to get a room elsewhere.

Oh and I forgot to mention the kitchen bin had not been emptied.

I appreciate that not everything can be right. But if you are selling a particular type it needs to deliver on that.

We booked 2 night to visit the football Liverpool vs Everton with my son and I must say that you get a good value for your money. The room was outdated but good enough for the purpose (and logically when we don't want to pay a good price;)
Staff was OK but the concierge in the front (Les??) was very good. Well experienced and good stories and very helpful. Location was great. We didn't use the SPA facilities (on the other side of the road

Stayed for one night on Wednesday July 9th, the room was very clean and the bed comfortable . We booked at a reduced rate through secret escapes and found the hotel good value for money . Breakfast was very tasty and the staff were all friendly and courteous . I would recommend this hotel to friends .
