My other half and I stayed at Mays House for three nights while visiting my daughter in Liverpool. I think I had booked a studio apartment but we got a one bedroom apartment, which was nice. The apartments are a little way off the beaten track, but very close to the centre of the city and are well signposted from Park Place. We managed to get totally lost getting there in the first place, but that was due to relying on the AA routeplanner - we don't have satnav (yet).
The apartment was very spacious, light and airy. The double bedroom was very large, with French windows and a Juliet balcony - looking over the street unfortunately - but letting in loads of light and air. A little too much light - there are vertical blinds on the window and they don't shut out much light at all. Also, the bed was, in my opinion, absolutely rock hard. I prefer a soft bed and tend to find a lot of beds too hard, but this was much much too hard for me. The living room/kitchen was also large, with a kichenette area at one end, very well equipped with a proper oven and hob, a microwave, toaster, kettle and under counter fridge. The sitting area contained two sofa beds, a coffee table and a side table. Nothing else apart from a nice flat screen television on the wall. It was quite spacious. The bathroom was huge, quite big enough for a separate shower in addition to the bath (it had a shower over the bath) and for a loo with a full sized cistern. We did have a problem with the loo when we first got there, it has a very small cistern and wasn't providing enough flush to flush - if you know what I mean. We informed the staff and a very nice chap came to fiddle with it and definitely improved it, but we did take the large saucepan into the bathroom to add extra water when the extra ooomph was required. The towels were very nice though!
These are very nice apartments, in my opinion, and in a convenient area. There are a few little things that need to be done to make them even better, and a few more things could be done to make them luxury, but we very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider going there again.
There were also a couple of things which should have been noticed and something done before we visited. The people before us had obviously had the same problem with the loo as us - the loo brush was absolutely disgusting. We were going to Ikea anyway so we just bought a new one for only 40p. The washing up brush had definitely seen better days - again we bought one from Ikea and used that. We also bought an anti slip shower mat for the bath - there is an over bath shower but no texture in the bath itself and no shower mat provided. I once managed to slip and fall over the side of the bath while showering in a hotel in Spain - it is not something I would like to do again.
Things to make it even better - Curtains or black out blinds in the bedroom, a mattress topper or better mattress on the bed, some hooks for coats in the hallway, a loo with a better flush, hooks behind the bedroom door for dressing gowns, a table lamp in the sitting room, hanging rails for wet towels in the bathroom, a loo roll holder (there was plenty of toilet paper provided in one of those cylinder shaped loo roll containers but nothing actually to hang the roll you were using on) and a non -slip shower mat. Also - the leads from the television were just hanging down the wall, a little attention to detail in finding a way to hide these would have looked better. None of these things are necessary, the apartment is fine without them, but they would just add that little bit extra that could make a difference.
The staff were very helpful - and I believe that better blinds or curtains may be being considered already.
