Right now the hotel is under constructions, that's why we didn't find the door at first. As soon as we were inside, we were welcomed with a warm atmosphere and nice design. The service was great and friendly but not really fast. The rooms have an unusual design, that we haven't seen in other hotels before. It is mostly held in elegant black. The bathroom has a huge and relaxing bath tub and the shower was really enjoyable. We experienced a better view on the sea but what we had in the end was beautiful too. They have extra services like a chocolate-strawberry present, flowers, waterboiler with coffee and tea, bathrobes and champagne. The bar in a dark-violett room was comfortable and had a lot of drinks to offer. But the best of all was the comfortable bed of which you don't want to get up at all, we had troubles to get up for checking out because we just wanted to keep laying there. We didn't have dinner or lunch in the restaraunt, the breakfast though was little disappointing with low diversity of bread and other things. Still we would definitely recommend it and come again one day.

Great location, walking distance to the main city centre, train station, Albert dock etc...
I think it was just bad luck but when we were walking back to the hotel before midnight, we had rocks thrown at us near the entrance by people living in rented apartments at the top of the hotel. We complained this to the hotel staff as luckily no one was seriously hurt but they had replied they couldn't do anything about it as the apartments were separately owned.

The hotel looked very impressive from the reception area and the bar etc and we were impressed with the room at first even if it was a little small. I had paid for a river view however, you had to pin your nose to the window to catch a glimpse of it through other buildings. When we tried to get hot water in the bathroom there wasn't any in the taps, bath or shower so we rang to reception and were told the boiler was broken. Not good since we had been on the road for a very long time. It wasn't sorted that night but we could have a shower in the morning.
Pulling back the covers to get in to bed revealed a clump of matted black hair on the mattress which instantly put me off getting in! We also found a used cocktail stirrer behind the bathroom door coated in hair and dust. After a really good breakfast, we complained to the receptionist who transferred us to the duty manager. We got free car parking (which is normally £15 per night!) and he removed out drinks tab. Not too satisfied as we still paid a lot for the room which was not really as described and didn't have hot water for the majority of the stay.
Definitely not what I expected for a hotel with such a good reputation!

It was exactly as described on its own website. It was a wonderful place to walk into and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The room was beautifully decorated and 'roomy' and I liked that the bathroom had a bath and a separate shower. The toiletries were really nice too. We called room service in the middle of the night as we had run out of tea bags and milk, they were very quick and polite.

Breakfast was really good and the service was quick. There was no problem leaving our luggage at reception until we had to leave Liverpool much later that evening.

I couldn't think of any fault at all. It is just as described in its own brochure. I would love to have the opportunity to stay there again.

Liverpool Mal is fantastic. Me and my partner loved the room and the bathroom was AMAZING. However, there were some minor hassles that we felt detracted from the whole experience. For example, the parking machine was broken so we had hassle with getting a ticket (we got it for free in the end). We got charged for a bottle of wine that was supposed to have been supplied with the room (after a phone call it was removed from my credit card).

A big issue was where it was located. It is located in the office district on the quayside which has no life at the weekend. You need to travel down to Liverpool ONE (which is a good 10 minutes walk away). This place (Liverpool ONE) is very confusing to get round because of the various levels and maze of getting around. As you can probably guess, in certain weather conditions, the mass of lifeless office buildings can appear very grey and bleak, which really can detract from the ambience of the hotel.

The restaurant was interesting. We really enjoyed the duck pizza but the Fish and Chips will forever go down with me for providing a mere 9 chips placed in a cube. I understand what posh catering involves, but there is a point when the mick is taken. My other qualm has to be the 10% cover charge that was whacked on top of the bill. I am not impressed by restaurants that pull this stunt. I was impressed by the member of staff who consulted with me after I asked for a drink that turned out to be disproportionally expensive considering what it was (a bottle of cider).

Some people have mentioned how dark this hotel is. Yes it is and that is what you can expect from Liverpool Mal. I don't think you have "gotten" the idea if you complain about it. The lobby was brilliant with the statement fire place and comfy sofas.

I will certainly consider Malmaison Hotels again and I would stay at this hotel for a romantic weekend with my partner. They certainly understand what good customer service requires but it is a shame that certain events tarnished our stay slightly

First time at a Malmaison hotel and will definately not be the last. We stayed for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday). The hotel does appeal to adults and loved the boutique, dark and trendy colours which are portrayed throughout the hotel. Nice relaxing reception, lovely purple coloured bar and a great restaurant. Everything is stylish even the lifs and corridors. People have mentioned the hotel is too dark for them, I would say the hotel have got it spot on, as soon as you enter you feel totally relaxed.
We upgraded to a Superior king double room which was fantastic, great king size bed and plenty of space in the room. The bathroom was lovely, great sink, amazing corner bath and the rain shower was really nice in the morning.
I would say that the hotel is fantastic but probably two things let it down just slightly, but not enough to give it less than 5 out of 5.
The location is just slightly out of the centre of everything, about a 15 minute walk to the Albert Dock, same distance to Liverpool One and probably about 10 minutes from the Cavern Club. Taxi was only about £4 to the Albert Dock if you choose not to walk.
The only other minor thing was the cooked breakfast, it was nice but no buffet option and the portions were fairly small, you could though help yourself to cereal, pastries..etc as well.
We did have dinner at the hotel one night, this was excellent and the service during our whole stay was first class.
I would definately stay here again!!

We booked this hotel through the Malmaison head office, and got the same rate as advertised in Laterooms.com (£290 reduced to £109, including breakfast – please note a hefty £290 original nightly rate!). When we checked out they originally tried to charge us the reduced rate, excluding breakfast, and then added breakfast that the full rate, which would have made the total cost about £118 for the night.
The location is ok if you don’t mind walking to the local attractions (Albert Dock, Liverpool One etc.)
We were charged £15 for 22 hours in the adjacent car park. This was confusing as the rate shown in the car park was £15 for 24 hours – if hotel residents actually stay for 24 hours they have to pay an additional £3.80 for the extra two hours!
The room was very nice but not worth the full rate above – as others have pointed out you probably need a torch to find your room as the corridors are so dark.
It was strange, however, that in a supposedly up market “boutique” hotel you don’t even get a shower cap (according to reception we could have phoned down for one but surely these are usually standard issue in hotels these days). Similarly there were no bathrobes – we’ve stayed in lesser hotels where these are offered.
I suppose the above are minor niggles but what really stunned me was that, when we tried to book a table in the hotel at night, we were informed that it was fully booked. So, having already walked to the Albert Dock and back, we then had to do the return journey in order to get something to eat – be prepared to pay for a taxi or enjoy the walk!
It’s always easy with hindsight but I would certainly recommend anyone reading this to find a more central hotel which offers better value for money.
