“Grand Hotel but affordable prices”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Beautiful hotel about 10 minutes taxi ride from Lime Street Station. 5 mins walk to the Docks and 10 into the town centre. Great places to shop, eat and drink. We had asked for a room with balcony, but wasn't allocated one, which was very disappointing. Also on check in, we weren't informed that breakfast was included, so went without on the first day until our hero Michelle from house keeping stepped in! We were able to change rooms on the third night and for our inconvenience we were sent up a beautiful breakfast basket and bottle of bubbly. The staff can't do enough for you, just dial 0 from your room for reception and they are happy to help with requests. The room we stayed in is quite opulent, black feature wall and carpet and the corridor has black padded walls, which can be a bit daunting on a late night return to your room. The spa bath is huge and lovely waterfall shower above. The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable and there are plenty of mirrors. The wardrobe is quite small and not tall enough to hang anything long, but it has extra towels, an iron and hair dryer. Loads of plug sockets, a kettle and complimentary tea, coffee and milk. The bathroom is an adequate size but nowhere to pop your toothbrush or toilet bag. The breakfast at weekends was served from 8 - 10.30. help yourself to tea, coffee, fresh orange and toast. Choice of cereal, pastries, meats and fruit. Free wifi available in all rooms.
All in all, for the price, it was a fantastic, friendly hotel in a great location and would definitely recommend. Special thanks to Michelle for saving the day!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the dock with balcony

If you want something other than a chain city centre hotel then look no further. Whilst not entirely to our taste it was a fantastic location and good value for what it was. The rooms are themed and it is difficult to see who some of them are aimed at - ours had two double beds and a sofa bed (sleeping 6 in theory), a very smart kitchenette and a huge Jacuzzi bath. It was a massive room with views across the docks. It lacked a bit of attention to detail in places - our bathroom door wouldn't shut because it was far too big for the opening, and despite a kitchen kitted out for 6 people with plates, bowls cutlery etc, there was nowhere that you could sit and eat other than on your lap.
Staff were brilliant and breakfast was good though we seemed lost in a huge function room.
Our only complaint was the noise from the 7th floor bar/restaurant and the music beat coming through our room in the early ours. We were told it would be off at midnight and when I phoned to complain they turned it down but not off.

Room Tip: avoid 6th floor below bar

My Fiancé treated us to a stay at the amazing 30 James Street hotel for my 30th, in a word - WOW
You couldn't ask for a better location, more typically friendly receptionists and sheer luxury for the price
We stayed in a suite that sleeps 4, so for the money you'd struggle to get a room in most of the cheap chain hotels
The decor is themed on each floor, finished to a luxurious standard and the jacuzzi baths are brilliant
We had the love package, yes my Mrs is proper cheesy, but a nice touch to arrive to the room decorated in petals, with bubbly and cupcakes waiting for us
Nothing was too much trouble for the reception staff and we even had a complimentary continental breakfast thrown in
We'd recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to be in the heart of our city, and for the feeling of luxury this place can offer

This hotel is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Spent a girlie night in the presidential suite and was blown away, then spent a romantic anniversary celebration with my husband. The staff and service were fantastic. Have booked again! I would recommend it to all.

What a fantastic stay - booked by my sister as a birthday surprise. Six of us stayed on the sixth floor in the Presidential Suite which totally lived up to its billing. It is an amazing room with the largest bath I have ever seen in my life. The corner turret is decked out in cushioned seating where you could relax and watch the large screen TV if you felt the need but who would want to with the amazing views of the Liverpool waterfront to entertain you? The views from the balcony in the Carpathia bar on the 7th floor are even better so we enjoyed a cocktail or two before dining in the newly opened restaurant. The food was excellent, the cocktails even better. The hotel has been decorated to a very high standard (you really feel like you are on a luxury cruise) and many of the original features have been kept from when the building housed the White Star Line such as the safes in the bar and the original lifts which were one of the first fitted in the city. As a scouser I didn't feel the need to visit the many nearby tourist attractions but if you are a visitor this is an excellent location to venture out into this fantastic city. All of the staff throughout the hotel were really helpful and friendly and helped to make this a birthday treat to remember. Thanks guys.
