“great pub garden and authentic "old style" pub interior”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

It is a little off the beaten track (at the back of James Street) but worth looking for if you enjoy a good pint in a "proper" pub which has a great bonus of a very nice outdoor area, perfect for sunny days.
Lots of different lagers on draft to choose from, good quick service from a couple of friendly ladies.

“Hidden in an alley”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

Luckily we were with native of Liverpool and this is one of their favorite pubs...one has to go around the corner down the alley next to a car park..pub food, Scouse Stew, Steak Pie and several other choices with sides..reasonable prices!

“Proper pub”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

I've always loved The Cornmarket so after I moved back to Liverpool I couldn't wait to take my fiance there. Always a good selection of drinks (including soft drinks which was good as the fiance doesn't day drink) and a decent menu with all the old favourites on there. I always love the local and friendly service I've gotten in this pub, always made to feel very welcome.
I think the main pull is still the decor, the timbers in the parlour and the full array of nautical features and funny quotes always catches the eye. Would recommend to anyone.

“Good atmosphere and surroundings”
Reviewed 7 April 2014

Called in here for a drink during a recent day out in Liverpool. The pub served real ale which was excellent and the staff were pleasant and accommodating. The food looked good although we did not sample any ourselves. Would defiantly return and give it another go.

“Friendly city pub - good food and ale”
Reviewed 18 March 2014

Looking for lunch last week in Liverpool had almost given up, especially when some old haunts had proved very disappointing. Resorted to Cask Marque guide on smartphone to find this gem of a pub was situated just around the corner. I had worked in Liverpool for 25 years and never been in it before. We entered in trepidation to find a pub packed with people eating lunch in a friendly cosy atmosphere. Usual premium lagers etc and two excellent real ales on the pumps. Beyond the bar is a servery with usual pub hot food : sausages, mash, veg chips, pie, curries. There is a specials board. We opted for steak pie (made on the premises) which we were served with large portions of well cooked veg, chips and loads of thick tasty gravy. Cost £5.50 each.
