Visited with our friends last Saturday after a very bad experience there in January. It's so good to say it (and with great relief) I can confirm that yes............ its back to its old standards!!! Lovely ambience, attentive staff, brilliant service and the food was plentiful and really good quality, tasty and best of all they hadn't run out of anything that we'd asked for!
In the words of Arny....."We'll be back"!

Superb tasting food, beautifully presented. With cask ales and excellent value wines. What more could one ask for ? Well; how about open fires, candle-lit tables and the warmest of welcomes?! From the outside it may look like "only another pub". How wrong could you be, step inside with an appetite and step out a few hours later with a smile from ear to ear

My wife and I had lunch at The Monro and then returned the same evening for dinner. On both occassions the food and service were excellent and the value was OUTSTANDING!! A two course lunch cost £12 each and their Monday night special was £16 each for two courses and a bottle of wine. However, don't get the wrong idea - the prices are very reasonable but the food was equivalent to that you'd get at a good restaurant costing four times the price!

After a long day shopping, me and my husband popped into The Monro for an early evening dinner without a reservation and had a very reasonable 2 course menu for £14. All food was well presented, well cooked and very tasty (especially the oxtail lasagne). The restaurant was busy but we weren't made to feel rushed at all and our waitress Ruth was excellent and very personable. Would definitely recommend a friend and will return.

Visited with a friend and had the 'early doors' option. What a disappointment it was. The goats cheese and baby beets starter was so small, if you scooped it all up at once it would have amounted to barely a forkful. The main course of 'home made' fish pie was dry, unappetisingly presented and so ferociously hot that we had to wait to eat it. I had informed our (lovely) waitress that I was coeliac, but despite this, my main arrived with a side of bread and butter and no vegetables. We pointed out our dissatisfaction to the staff and were offered a free dessert, which although listed as panacotta, had the solid consistency of cheesecake that had been in the fridge for far too long. We did not eat this. On the plus side, the staff and the ambience are very good and the wine list fine. But at £14 for 2 courses of that quality, this place needs to up its standard of cooking sharpish.
