“A Fleeting Visit”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

We saw good write-ups in the local tourist brochures and decided to try it out after our morning visit to the Beatles' childhood homes. There were basic food offerings chalked on a blackboard and we would have had the cheap (but hopefully cheerful) local dish of "(lob-)scouse", but they had just sold the last couple of portions, so we went on elsewhere for food after enjoying a couple of pints of their excellent beer, brewed on the premises - stout and bitter, both superb. The pub (not sure why this is under the heading of a restaurant) was fairly chilly that day and seemed to be undergoing some (much needed) re-decoration.

“A world away from Yates and All Bar One.”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

Was staying the night in a hotel on the dock. Noticed this place as I was driving in. Very traditional pub with lots of real ales and lagers on tap. A pub like they used to be, in a good way.

“A True CAMRA pub”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

This pub has kept its character and thankfully hasn't had a plastic make-over. Good ales and good atmosphere.

If you're looking for a quiet beer and a good chat, this is a good place to go. Genuine micro brewery on premise with great beer at affordable prices. Well worth a visit.
