“Very pricey for mediocre food, terrible service and poor decor”
Reviewed 12 December 2013 via mobile

We were a group of 4 who went to the Gulshan for a meal. We had been previously about 2 years ago and everything was fine but this time was very different. When we arrived it took 25 minutes to get our first drinks. There was no service with a smile and we were made to feel that we were an inconvenience to them. The cocktails at £6 seemed reasonable enough but when theirs arrived it was basically a glass with ice in with a drop of alcohol so not impressed. We ordered the poppadoms and at the end when the bill arrived you have to pay separately for the chutney. I have never known this and again it's underhand tactics to get more money from their customers. After an hour of waiting our starters finally arrived. Very bland and my lamb tikka starter arrived on a slate with a drop of sauce nowhere near enough needed. I had to ask for more and shock it turns out that was also extra!! After another hour the mains arrived. Again the food was average and at the price they charge not acceptable. After the plates were eventually cleared the manager asked us if we wanted desert. We said no thanks just the bill. He asked why we didn't want anything else and when he was told that it would be Christmas before we got it he said fair enough and walked off. That was perfect opportunity to apologise for terrible service. After 10 minutes waiting on the bill I went to chase it up and they were around the corner adding up the cost from the menu. Hardly up to date practices. When the bill arrived it was a hand written scrawl and not legible so impossible to tell if it was correct. After 2 and 1/2 hours of awful service we just paid the £150 and left as we just wanted to get home. On waiting outside we had a look at their takeaway menu and my main course was cheaper by £8. Great to advertise that after we had just been ripped off in the restaurant for terrible service. At One point we was going to order a takeaway and get it collected and taken to out table it was so slow!! Will never go back and if you value your money and time do not waste it on a place that doesn't value their custom. As a last point the restaurant wasn't busy at probably 50% occupancy so heaven knows how they would cope in a busy period. But I can certainly understand why they struggle for business

“Very nice!”
Reviewed 19 November 2013 via mobile

Been driving past here for years and new one day we would try this place.
I was impressed, nice friendly staff and decor, and the food, well I can't really complain, all good.
We took advantage of our Tastecard, so worth the visit.
Will be back.

“Try The Tapas - excellent”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

As well as the main restaurant the Gulshan also does Indian tapas dishes upstairs in the lovely bar/lounge. I have had tapas a number of times and they have never disappointed me.
The are presented in lovely dishes, are a decent size and will all arrive together - 3 is plenty for me.
My husband loves the Lamb chops and I love the Talapia dish but everything I have tried is very good and all the dishes have spicy flavours to them.
If you want a variation on a traditional Indian meal try the Gulshan bar for Tapas you won't regret it.
Also, the Bar is a very nice place to have a drink even if you are not eating at the Gulshan. It very well stocked and the staff can make any number of lovely cocktails.
Don't be put off by any poor comments on the Gulshan I have many friends who have enjoyed meals here and have loved it.

“Good selection of Indian dishes”
Reviewed 2 October 2013 via mobile

4 of us travelling out of John Lennon airport early next day wanted a quick but good quality Indian meal near the airport. This fitted the bill. 10 mins by car and with a good selection of food to choose from. No atmosphere but it was a Monday evening. Service slow but clearly all individually cooked. Good food and friendly service
