The only positives for this hotel is location (very central) and the staff were friendly.
Otherwise, avoid like the plague:
- It's not very clean - there were hairs all over the bed and in the bathroom.
- Very tatty - it doesn't look like it's been painted or deep cleaned in a long time as the paint is all chipped and has marks/stains on it.
- Our room was absolutely freezing when we arrived as we had very drafty corner windows and the air con heater kept stopping. It eventually behaved and stayed on so it did warm up but it took a long time.
- It's very very basic, no tea/coffee/kettle, no where to really put things / hang things. I know it's budget, but this is beyond budget to not include the basics.
- The hotel was like a warren of corridors and very illogical as you swapped across into Hotel 'B' through a bizarre old hall. Overall felt quite unsafe and would be a death trap if there was a fire.
- The bed was hard and uncomfortable.
- It was noisy
We were meant to stay 2 nights but after the first night we decided it was better to drive home (back to Bristol) after we had met with family. So we set off at about 7pm - the staff didn't seem surprised when we checked out.
All in all, if you can get this room for £30-£50 (which is does go for), only want to stay one night and don't intend to be in the room for any period of time, then it's probably ok. If you want a hotel and/or want to stay more than one night, avoid at all costs. I can only assume all these good reviews are from people who got it very cheap
