“Lebanese cannot get better”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

This is an unpretentious restaurant that serves excellent Lebanese home-made food, all prepared to order. The portions are enormous and although two or three mezzes could be enough for one person, try not to miss the delicious mains, especially the marinated lamb and the kofta. The restaurant is small and the young Lebanese chef prepares everything himself but we did not have to wait more than the usual for our dishes. It is by far the best Lebanese food I have outside Lebanon. The wine list, as expected, covers a good selection of Lebanese wines which are priced reasonably.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2014

We went to this restaurant with friends who had looked on trip advisor which showed good reviews. Unfortunately, there were children running all over the place to start with, my starter I asked if it could be heated and had to send back as it was still cold, my main meal arrived before I had finished my starter so that was sent back because it had got cold. When It arrived back it was burnt. The plates felt like they had come out of the fridge, they forgot my husbands main meal which eventually arrived after the other five of us had finished ours. The food wasn't anything special and it was still £20 per head. Service poor as only one person serving. The only thing that I could recommend was the red wine! Sorry, but will not be returning and will not be recommending.

“Especially good Lebanese cafe-style restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2014

We almost rejected this simple-looking place due to its plain exterior. We were very glad we did not.

We had the mixed mezze plate for £10 between us, and this turned out to be more than enough for a light lunch. There were 8 mezzes, including hummus, tabbouleh, dolma, kibbeh, aubergine, in both puree and salad form, and came with flatbread. The waiter was charming and funny, which was a very pleasant extra.

“Good change”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2014

It is nice to be surprised, pleasantly. We have been going to Chez Marcelle for years and went again last night. We had missed the fact that Marcelle , with her wonderful homey Lebanese food, had finally retired and were worried to see an new chef and decor. But Wow! Chef Rabi is not only every bit as good, he is actually better (sorry Marcelle). His fattoush was amazing as were the kibbeh, the foul and moutabah. All dishes were fresh, light, and so tasty. The Lebanese wine and beer perfect accompaniment to the food. This is really one time when a change of management has been an improvement. Testimony to this was on a Wednesday night the restaurant was packed. Although unpretentious, this is really a fun place to go for amazing food. We are looking forward to our next visit although It might get hard to pop in without a reservation now....

“The food is prepped to perfection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2014

So the curiosity chez Marcelle is how many chefs are in the kitchen and is it actually Marcelle herself doubling as proud maitresse d' and chef de cuisine? She once offered (him?) as a suitor to my sister but this shrewd Lebanese proprietor from Baalbek perhaps knows that to create an enigma chef is to impress the clientele and profit as a restaurateur.
Popular with the local Arab community in Kensington and Chelsea Borough, the restaurant is rarely open unless Marcelle is in residence. Gentle and kind she beams with pride when she stops at the table to chat away just like I imagine the folk in Baalbek do to remember what is good and what is of value in this life that is oh too short not to devote endless hours over the dining experience.
What's that? The food you ask? All of it, the Kibbeh, falafel, tabbouleh - well why else would the local Arab community take up residence? It is simply superb.
