This restaurant is quite big and loud, so don't expect a intimate affair. Do however expect very prompt service. We ordered a quarter duck, sesame seed prawn toast, sweet and sour chicken and prawns in a chili sauce. All the dishes were very good and satisfying. Portions could have perhaps been slightly larger. All this and a glass of wine and coke came to approximately £60 with service charges for 2 people.

Definitely planning to revisit soon when in the mood for Chinese.

We booked the restaurant as a 40th celebration and when we arrived the lady on the counter told us that our table was taken and ignored us whilst we waited. When she did eventually look up she spoke in a very rude and loud voice telling us that we were late. We had arrived 8 minutes after our table reservation and she told us that she had given our table away because we were late. As we tried to explain that we were not told at the time of booking that there would be not flexibility in keeping the table she just continued to speak in a very curte and aggressive tone, something we were not expecting from a central london restaurant. When the manager did eventually come at our request he continued in the same tone and manner as the lady on the counter. We eventually left as our evening was spoiled by this very upsetting incident. I certainly would not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends and would be very mindful before you book.

We ordered Peking Duck for starter and got roast duck instead. The senior waitress said this was their best attempt, which was both unbelievable and disappointing. The rest of the meals was just as bad including the desserts. It doesn't take a chef to make red bean paste pancake and they couldn't even cook this. The food is expensive, waiters and waitresses poorly trained and standard of cooking below par. I would not recommend this restaurant to my enemies.

When paying more you expect more, Royal China does not deliver.
Staff is rude and seems quite uninterested of giving the guests any added value, such as a smile or some nice words. Well, it is maybe to much expected in a Chinese restaurant where smiles in general are rare. My recommendation is that if you want to eat chinese, go to Chinatown instead"

We dined here for the first time with friends who are regulars.

The food was generally very good and of high quality.

We had duck to start which was really excellent. Half a duck went a long way but there were far too few pancakes and trimmings to go with it. We had to keep asking for more, but the lady actually serving us was rather brusque and surly.

Royal China could be really excellent if it sorted out the service..!
