“Odins, new and not so new”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2012

Odin's reopened recently, and still looks much the same as before, which is good because it always had a lovely atmosphere. Service is friendly and good, even charming, if a bit overstretched when busy.
The new menu is disappointing - good mains, and very reasonable prices, but dull starters and only 4 sweets + cheese at a hefty £9. . The wine list is ill-described and almost exclusively French: it's hard to see how they can ignore Chile, Argentina, Italy, USA, Australia and New Zealand, to mention some of the more obvious omissions. The cooking is good, though, with well judged calves liver lyonnaise and tender onglet, sizzling well garlicked snails, and sharp blackcurrant sorbet. They say the menu is temporary, and we hope so, because it's the limitations that would prevent a revisit. And please do something about the wines!

“Is this an echo!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 December 2012

I have been to this restaurant many times before the refurbishment and had a business lunch there yesterday. Unfortunately my experience was just as bad as the previous reviewer orchehill1. Mushrooms on toast ok, calves liver awful, cheese board embarrassingly bad, wrong wine presented first, then failed to decant a 2002 Pomerol......need i go on? Well I will as this next thing has to rank as one of the most bizarre experiences I have ever had in any restaurant never mind one with the pretensions of this one......a waiter actually harangued me to leave a cash tip as well as the £45 "discretionary service charge" because " the boys don't see any of that, it goes on tableware, table linen and other things". Now try and guess......do you think i'll be going back?

“Odins refurbishment”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2012

This used to be one of our favourite restaurants and this is the first visit since it was refurbished.

It was an absolutely dreadful experience. The menu was a scrap of paper with a very limited choice.
I went for the onglet which our waiter assured us was a fillet steak cut. It resembled horse meat. I wanted medium and it was virtually raw. My vegetarian friend had macroni which was hard and unappetising.

No one asked us how our meal was? The cheese board consisted of 4 manky cheeses. When we mentioned to the new maitre D that our food was no good he was perplexed and said nothing!

This was a real shame an we will not be going back.

Terrible service, terrible food. The table opposite us also complained about the food

Why take a traditional successful restaurant and change it into a pseudo French bistro?

“Excellent Food with Friendly service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2012

Ate at Odin's yesterday for lunch and had a super time. They have recently refurbished the restaurant so there was a faint smell of fresh paint but that was soon overwhelmed by the garlic of my snails ! My wife had crab toast which lacked a bit of flavour.

We had the sea-bass which was the dish of the day and it was delicious. I had liver and bacon, the portion was a bit small but the taste was lovely.

Wines are reasonably priced.

Very friendly waiting staff - we will go back soon.

“A good choice.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2012

A little more up market when compared with their sister restaurant Langan's Bistro. Still reasonably priced, short varied menu, together with attentive service by professionals. Classic restaurant, classic dishes, good house wine.
This restaurant won't disappoint if you are looking for a good evening out in a white tablecloth atmosphere.
Neither Odin's nor Langan's stand out from the exterior, they are just off Marylebone High Street so they don't get much casual passing trade they are a destination and good choices as such.
