Travelodge London Central Southwark
Ranked #422 of 1,081 Hotels in London
Reviewed 10 January 2014

This was our first visit to a Travelodge, , we stayed for two nights on 7/8 January 2014.
Location was excellent, across the road from Southwark Tube station, Rowland Hill building on your right and then 100 yards down the road until you see a purple Remploy sign and your there.
Lord Nelson pub across the road and the Union Jack pub a little further on.
We left our case in reception as we were too early and went back at 2.30p.m for a speedy check-in.
Our room 318, was clean and comfortable with a small bathroom, though no bath, only a very good shower and no view. It did have tea and coffee making facilities.
The room was very quiet and we slept comfortably.
The TV did not have all the Freeview channels which was odd but we were not in London to watch TV.
The bar staff were attentive and the prices were very reasonable, pint of Stella £3.40 and a bottle of wine £9.95.
We didn't have breakfast there but had a late pizza, onion rings, garlic bread and chips and it was excellent value.
I would have no reservation about recommending this hotel to my friends.

I love this area of London and this is a great hotel at a great price! The new beds are really comfy. The only negatives were some noise from the train line below the room and lack of extractor fan in bathroom - made the whole room damp.

We are so pleased to learn you found our beds to be comfortable and you loved the location Ryan P. It is regrettable to learn you found the hotel to be noisy during your stay, in an attempt to reduce the noise outside of the hotel we do provide double glazing and insulated walls. All of our bathrooms are expected to have fully working extractor fans so we are truly sorry to learn that this was not the case during your stay. We will be sure to pass on your comments to the hotel management team so that they are able to look into this further. Thank you for your feedback.

This Travelodge is just a few minutes' walk from the tube station, a 3 minute walk to Gordon Ramsay's new venture The Union Street Cafe, and a 10 minute stroll from the South Bank and Tate Modern. There is a small general store next door and a Tesco Express around the corner, as well as lots of cafes in the area. The Travelodge is next to both a tube line and a main railway line (Waterloo). Our room overlooked both tracks but we heard nothing at all. The view of the tracks and The Shard in the distance were, however, fascinating and I spent far too much time gazing out of the window at the view! The room was immaculate, the staff superb. It is a little daunting at first, because you enter from the street into a lobby and have to take a lift to the first floor reception. Once inside, it's just a great place to stay. We have also stayed at Premier Inn around the corner, and whilst that is a bit closer to the river, it's further from the tube, and the Travelodge is in no way inferior. We will definitely go there again.

The hotel is located very central and budget friendly, it is in a safe neighbourhood just 200 m from the Southwark station and the Jubilee line so if you are getting to London by Gatwick airport this would be a good choice since trains operate from Gatwick to London Bridge station which is just one station from the Southwark station so it is very easy to get to/from the Gatwick airport, it took us 35 min from the airport to our room, in the other direction it is just one station to Waterloo station, two to Westminster, three to Green Park and four to Bond street station where all together you can connect to other seven lines and some of must see sights in London are located on this Jubilee route. We booked a double room and it overlooked the overground train bridge so the view was not something but the only time we spent in our room was to take a shower and sleep, the main concern was the fact that the trains were passing just few meters from our window but honestly we slept like babies didnt hear a thing. The room, bed and bathroom were clean and cosy but the carpet could use a good chemical cleaning , aircon for heating/cooling, didnt try the breakfast so cant say but for 5 pounds you can get classic eanglish breakfast elsewhere plus there is a store just next to the hotel where you can get snacks, drinks and bakery products. Would recommend and would stay there again. A very good grade for me.

Well located, quiet, clean hotel offering a good value for the price.
The subway station is at few minutes by walk, the waterloo and london bridge train stations close.
The family room was big enough.
Don't forget to ask for soaps ;o) (we had only 1 for 4 people per day !!!)
