“Nice hostel, very friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

Stayed here with my partner for one night, it was very nice. Stayed in the 6 bedroom room, the beds were comfy, room was clean and staff were very friendly. Bathrooms looked to be nicely maintained each day, and the price is very good for the service.
The New Cross area is also quite nice, there are lots of things to do, and there's a buzzing comedy club type thing right next to the hostel. Links are okay, no tube to this area but there is an overground which takes you to areas with tube links.

FREE wifi in the communal area, which also had a friendly vibe. Don't need to pay part of the fee online beforehand, you can just turn up, or book short notice and they will usually have a cheap room.

I've stayed at the New Cross Inn Hostel twice now and will continue to go back. The first time I stayed in the 2 bed private room and the second time in a 6 bed mixed.

I was pleased with how clean the rooms were and you could tell the bedding, linen and towels had been washed (which seems a rarity in other crappy hostels, for example the Hyde Park Hostel)

We were firstly greeted by a staff member who gave us all the details of our stay and was able to answer all of the questions we had, with a smile on his face.

They offer free breakfast in the morning which is only cornflakes and and toast but its enough to start your day. They also offer a free luggage room (although I don't think its entirely safe in there, as they offer the luggage room key to anyone who asks for it, regardless of needing a reason).

The price is probably the best part about this hostel as £13 will get you an 8-bed shared dorm which is a great price for what you get.

This area isn't fantastic in terms of connections - but there is the overground service which takes you to places like Victoria, where you can hop on a tube if needed.

Overall, I have enjoyed my stay on both occasions and will most likely stay again if I needed to.

Room Tip: Higher floors are further from the common room so will probably be less noisy. Rooms on the oppos...

Stayed here for 4D3N. Price was too expensive for the atrocious living condition.

Personal Experience:
Stayed at level 3, where 4 rooms were located at the same level (about 20 people). There were 3 shared bathrooms. Among the 3 bathrooms, only ONE bathroom had heated water and a lockable door. The door cannot be locked for the second bathroom. The third bathroom did not have shower facility.

Location was too far from city area...

Very good location and very nice stuff. It is not perfect but for that money is great. Very clean. It is a bit noicy due to nearby bar. Concerning the breakfast it was included but i didn't like it. Stuff allowed us to leave stuff there after check out -so that we can do seighseeing without luggage - very nice of them.

I've been to many hostels in London, and i keep coming back to the New Cross Inn. Why? Price for one thing. I've paid more than double at other places that didn't even include breakfast and were pure crap. The staff here are friendly- it's a smaller place so the vibe is not really impersonal. It's a building with character, take that as you may. The cleaning staff do all they can to keep this old place in order. Breakfast is simple but included in the price, and enough to get your day started. There are 2 1/2 kitchens as well. I like the neighbourhood too. Maybe some people like to stay in the city centre, but the New Cross area isn't so damn crowded, and has lots of small, independent, budget takeaways, fruit and veg shops, etc. There's a large supermarket nearby, as well as quick transit to north of the river.

Flaws? Tons of long term guests, cheap bunks, somewhat crowded dorms and the (free) wifi only works in the cramped, small common room. Water pressure is iffy at best, but it usually works. No lockers in dorms; a small fee to use the ones in the hall. The NCI is above a pub, and across the road from a nightclub so earplugs are a must.

Now as bad as that may sound, you must rate this hostel by London standards. Bottom line- you could pay a hell of a lot more, but you're not likely to get much better. I'll be back!

The only good thing about this hostel is physical location. It is close to major brand stores and has relatively decent access to most of the things. But beware of dangerous neighborhood, especially during the night. Daily fights, drunk people, violence outside the hostel is normal,as well as wall busting sounds from downstairs bar. A lot of people who stay there are regular sad souls. This is what you become after all your life energy becomes extracted and you have no choice, but to stay in shady, dirty, overcrowded hellhole. You can see daily performance of these sad people in a community room, the only place with internet access. They would pretend to be professors, teachers, important people, but the sad reality is that they can barely afford the rent and cheap booze. Beds are uncomfortable, with old mattresses that are soaked in sweat, sperm and other body liquids. It is hard to shower all this stench - showers often don't have hot water, or are simply unavailable. Beware if you want to leave something in a fridge- it will be stolen, but don't worry you will get a dreadful breakfast in a morning.
