“Great location for Central London but otherwise would avoid.....”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2009

We stayed for 3 nights at Lakeview Apartments & on arrival were literally left to find our own way to the apartment from the reception at the Thistle hotel next door. We stayed in apartment 2 on the 9th floor - I am not one to criticise or slag a place off just for the sake of it but I feel that other potential visitors to these apartments should be aware of apartment 2. We managed about one hour's sleep due to the lift going up & down all night long - the lift is right next door to the bedroom of this apartment (the lift machinery is also located to the left of the apartment) & it's a complete nightmare if you are like me & need a good night's sleep. I ended up taking the duvet & trying to get to sleep on the sofa in the lounge area instead but you could still hear the lift from there!
There was renovation works in progress on the floor above us and they started work (drilling & sawing) at 6.00am! I was in tears by this time (we had a big day ahead of us the following day & really needed a good night's sleep to set us up for the day - no chance!).
We called the agent as soon as they opened at 9.00am & told them all about our horrendous experience so far in the apartment. I give them their due as they were very prompt in sorting out an upgraded room for us in another part of the apartment (on another floor as far away from the lift as possible!!).
In general the apartments are very old fashioned & in need of some serious up-grading (curtains & furnishings are hideous) but they are clean & tidy. There is a serious lack of utensils in the kitchen - I nearly burnt my hand getting things out of the oven as they only leave you one teatowel (no oven glove or oven utensils).
Location is excellent as it is on Buckingham Palace Road with approx. 5 minutes walk to the palace gates & good restaurants/bars can be found down the road towards Westminster.
Would not stay here again by any means but to be honest I am struggling to find a really nice apartment in London that is not a ridiculous price.

we stayed at lakeview court apartments for a week in june and while the location is pretty good, the apartments while clean are quite dated. this was the only accommadation for our month away that was booked through a travel agent and really it was the worst we encountered. for the price I am sure I could've booked something a lot nicer myself but you live and learn. no more travel agents for me

Our family of five stayed in a "small" two bedroom apartment for four nights in June. We found the apartment (number 13) to be very spacious and very comfortable. It was perfect for our our family. It overlooked Buckingham Palace Gardens which was a bonus!
The best thing about this apartment is the location. We were 5 minutes walk from Victoria Station for trains and buses and there were restaurants, pubs and shops on our doorstep. A lot of the London "sights" are within walking distance of the apartment - Buckingham Palace, Green Park, St James Park, Trafalgar Square, Convent Garden, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, London Eye, Changing of the Horseguards etc
Although we found the apartment to be very clean, it could do with a bit of updating. The carpet was a bit tatty in some areas and the beds were not the most comfortable we stayed in on our 4-week trip. However, this did not deter from the terrific stay that we had here.
The breakfast that we had (part of our package) downstairs at The Thistle hotel was very good.
We would definately stay here again when we come back to London.

A 7 night stay in a 2 bedroom apartment (4 adults) was first rate. Excellent service, accommodation, presentation and location made for a very enjoyable time. Would not hesitate to return.

We stayed at this very spacious 3 bedroom apartment for 3 nights in October 08. Spacious isnt the correct word, it was massive. For a family of 4 (teenage and infant) it was perfect for us. It is in a great location , 5 minutes walk to Buckingham Palace etc, and even shorter distance to Victoria Station. Staff at the adjoining Thistle hotel were also splendid as far as being courtious and with check ins etc .We will not stay anywhere else when we have holidays in London in the future.

  • Liked — spacious living area and bedrooms
  • Disliked — couldnt get the washer/dryer to actually dry properly - likely my fault

We stayed here for 8 nights in June 08 and found the Apartments to be one of the best that we've ever stayed in.

Pros:
- microwave oven
- large kitchen containing all the usual utensils, fridge and dishwasher
- separate lounge/dining room
- separate washing machine and dryer: very convenient for us, saved a fortune on washing costs
- large bedrooms. There were three of us, we had two bedrooms, one with two double beds and one with one double bed.
- large bathroom with all the usual amenities
- a second toilet, very convenient when you have more than two people sharing.

Cons:
- not cheap, although fair for the price paid
- hotel staff take longer to serve Lakeview Court apartment guests

During our stay the rooms were cleaned twice, plenty of towels & other amenities (eg. soap, shampoo, conditioner etc..) supplied each time.

The location was another big plus: very near Victoria Underground, which is one of the main Tube stations in London. It is also very near the Coach station, handy for day trips on tour buses.

Very near two supermarkets - great for buying cheap food to cook back at the hotel. Also near a few restaurants so one can eat there if one doesn't want to cook.

The property is close to Victoria Theatre, we went to see Billy Elliott whilst in London and found it very enjoyable. The big plus was being able to walk back to our apartment afterwards.

Our booking had breakfast included - only we had to exit the apartment and go into the adjacent Victoria Westminster hotel in order to get to the breakfast room each morning.

A word of warning - junior staff seems very unaware that guests at the Lakeview Court Apartments should be able to avail themselves of all/most of the facilities available to hotel guests.
Our experience each morning before entering the breakfast room was of staff having to check with their Senior counterparts or the manager before letting us into the room and not charging us extra - it got a bit annoying each morning for 9 days as you can imagine. Also - the breakfast is only buffet on weekends, other days you have to order, what you get is then purely dependent on the staff serving.

Overall, very spacious accomodation for London. Good for the price paid.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment in Lakeview Court apartments for 5 nights in May 2008 for a room rate of 312GBP per night, we booked direct through Thistle Westminster Hotel. The stay was ok however we did not come away feeling that we had got good value and the attitude of the manager of the apartments was unsatisfactory when we told her we were unhappy with the internet card she had sold us.

She sold us a card that she said was for 5 days for 27GBP, after 2 days it ran out and it turned out that in the fine print, it was a card for only 2000 minutes or 33 hours. So we ended up having to buy another card, our internet costs for staying at Lakeview Court coming to 54 GBP for the 5 days!!

The manageress refused to refund our money claiming we should have known and also that she couldn’t prove we had paid for it! This has left a rather bad taste for us towards that property, i have reported her conduct to the General Manager but to date have not heard back. To cut a long story short here are the pros and cons of this place.

Pros
• Good location for getting around London, would only recommend for a short stay though.
• Roomy but dated apartment.

Cons
• Very loud roaring road noise when the windows are open which you have to do to air the place out.
• Internet access is expensive, having to pay for it twice does not help either.
• They want full payment 14 days in advance.
• Apartment is dated and lacking in basic equipment offered in other apartments, ie no dishwasher, no hooks in bathroom, no wastepaper bins in rooms.
• No cable tv.
• There is a ‘charge for every little thing’ attitude prevailing, I enquired about a late check out and was told it would cost 20 GBP per hour! I thought this was unnecessary as the place was obviously not full and I was only looking for an extra half an hour.
• Beds are not half as large as what they look like in promotional photos. The double beds would not even be queen size.
• No airconditioning.

All in all I would not recommend staying in this place, it is overpriced and it under delivers. There are much better value places at that level of room rate with similar access to transport. I would recommend 1b, 1 Sloane Ave, on www.theapartments.co.uk website where the management there have bent over backwards to make us feel welcome in a well located, well equipped apartment.
