While the prices for City Stay are cheap for London, the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The building is very run down and is in a less than desirable neighborhood. The rooms are clean, but very basic. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and I didn't get a good night's rest the 3 nights I was there. It is very close to Bow Road Underground Station (less than a 5 minute walk), and you can get to central London in about 30 minutes using the Underground. This hotel would be good if you are on a very tight budget and just need a place to stay, but isn't a nice, comfortable hotel for a couple's or family trip.

My wife and I stayed here following the Springsteen Gig at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. and it's OK if you want is somewhere relatively cheap to crash for a night. Our room (2) was small, cramped and being on the lower ground floor, dark. The kitchen and breakfast arrangements were more like a hostel than a hotel being entirely self service i.e. if you want a cooked breakfast you cook it yourself. Cereals and fruit were provided. We didn't stick around for breakfast as the atmosphere in the lounge where you eat was so dark and oppressive on a nice sunny day! We got on the tube then got croissants and coffee at Pret and breakfasted in Regents Park (lovely!).
The bed was three quarter width and the pillow where thin.
The hotel was very clean throughout and the staff were courteous and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room bigger than room 2 if there is one!

The CityStay hotel is only a 5 min walk from the Bow Street subway station. It is a small but affordable hotel. Although the plumbing is dated and the rooms are basic, everything is clean and the staff is friendly. Not the place to be if you are a spoiled, luxury traveller but for everybody else a fine hotel.

If I ever travel to London again I would certainly stay here again.

The hotel has 4 street parking spots that can be booked for Gbp 5 a day. The hotel does not have a breakfast service but they have a small kitchen that you may use.
Tha gas station across the street has coffee, donuts, orange juice etc

About as cheap as you can get in London. DLR station is next door + Bow Road tube station is 300m away, so the whole of London is easily accessible. Room was clean, shower cramped + leaking + mattress seen better days. Also the electric socket was not screwed to the wall in the bedroom. All pretty standard for 2 star hotels, so not a major issue. Hotel was very quiet at night, I think it helped that we were on the top floor though. You get a key to come + go as you please, which is useful. Breakfast is a free-for-all, with food supplied in the downstairs kitchen. This was the only downfall of this hotel. Firstly, there was a Lithuanian girl staying there who had her food stolen from the fridge 2 nights running (despite clearly labelling it, the thief even left the label in the kitchen) Secondly, on the Saturday morning, there were no eggs or bread available - someone from reception was supposed to have gone to get it, but hadn't appeared by 9 am. eventually I went to the Co-op over the road + bought 2 loaves of bread + some eggs, so that people could eat. I mentioned this to the receptionist, who suddenly seemed to lose his grasp of English + kept telling me that breakfast is provided + I could use the kitchen downstairs (I knew breakfast was provided, I provided it!) All-in-all, if you want cheap accommodation in London + don't want breakfast then this is the place to stay. You get pretty much what you expect.
Try the Bow Bells pub up the road (bright orange, you can't miss it) a proper pub, hard to find these days.

I can definitely recommend this hotel! Some great points of it:
- location (2nd zone of tube, 300 m from tube station, buses to central london right next to the hotel, just 20 min walk to stratford station; in the very near neighborhood all shops and dining places you need when staying w London),
- very well-equiped kitchen with all necessary facilities and food products to prepare breakfast&snacks,
- cleanliness&smell of the room above the London's average.
Good value for very good money!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are more quiet. At night Bow Road can be a quite noisy street.

Partner and I stayed here for 2 nights as all websites pointed to value for money. Which it was!
A 2 minute walk from the nearest tube station (Bow road) with a co-op opposite and a Barclays bank next door for withdrawing money.
The room we had was right on the front so we had the noise of traffic and people coming in and out of the hotel. The windows rattled with the occasional lorry but that can easily be ignored if you are a heavy sleeper like we are. The room itself was spacious with a double bed and en-suite. The bed was comfortable and very clean though the pillows were different, one soft and one slightly harder one. The bathroom came with a towel on the floor, towel for self and complimentary toiletries, which were lovely to use. The bathroom was spotless and came stocked with hand-wash and toilet roll.
Breakfast was not included with our room price but when asked about it they said we could help ourselves anyway which was lovely. The kitchen is well stocked and with a self-cleaning, self-catering attitude.
Overall I'd say it was well worth what you pay for and would happily use it again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are a lot quieter and opting for en-suite is a winner at the price you pay.
