Excellent location, very reasonable rates, friendly staff and very quiet for central London. Studios are basic - though you have everything you need. Studios and clean and self catering facilities good

We are just back after staying 5nights. Only fault was the heat in the room. There is a blow fan.

The location is fantastic. It's just basic accomdation but clean and handy to everything.

I would recommend this place to anyone looking for cheap standard accomodation in the heart of London

LSE Grosvenor House Studios is a student hostel belonging to LSE, so rooms may not be as readily available as other hotels. However, the central location in Covent Garden area is as excellent as it can get, right in West End and within walking distance to Leicester and Trafalgar Squares, London Eye, and other tourist attractions.
This is arguably a hostel, so do not expect top-notched facilities like at hotels. The studio room has an attached pantry (with cooking hobs, a small fridge, a sink, microwave) which would come in handy, especially if you're staying in London for more than just a few days and eating out in Central London is expensive. The bathroom is small but functional. There is, however, no air-conditioning unit, so if you come during the summer months and there happens to be a heatwave, good luck to you. Otherwise, London weather isn't all that bad so a fan is quite sufficient (there's a heater as well).
There actually isn't a ceiling fan. The management gave us a small table fan when we checked in. The fan is crucial as it helps with circulation; the windows are small and cannot be opened fully for security reasons. On top of the fan, we were also given sufficient cooking utensils (picture attached), so there's no need to buy disposable ones from the supermarket.
Housekeeping is done once a day, and they'll only change your towel if you leave them on the floor, for environmental reasons. Not a problem for us though.
Lastly, the bed is not a real double bed, but converted from two single beds, presumably because hostel management prefers flexibility. Be careful if you roll around.
If you like a no-frills place with excellent location, this is the one.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Trip Advisor.

I am pleased you enjoyed your recent stay with us at Grosvenor House which as you say, enjoys a fabulous central location in Covent Garden. Grosvenor House offers term time accommodation to students of the LSE and is open to all during the summer vacation. Unlike hostels, where guests share bedrooms with others, LSE Grosvenor House has a range of single, double and twin studios, each with their own private kitchenette and en-suite bathroom facilities.

We very much hope to be able to welcome you back for another stay sometime in the future.

Great location in the Covent Garden area. Friendly staff. But you can't phone out from the room, and there's a reluctance on the part of the staff to transfer incoming calls to rooms. An absurd situation. Also in the communications area, they don't move mail on to residents. I knew I had a letter delivered to the hostel, and I had to go to the staff, ask about mail, and sort through a large pile to find my letter. If I hadn't done that, I wouldn't have got it. This is also an absurd situation.

Rooms are Spartan, but adequate. Mattresses are uncomfortable. Room wasn't always done by the daily cleaning staff.

Price of the rooms is very good, but I would not go back to Grosvenor House Studios.

Simple room , no view, no TV. If you're in London why watch TV ? Free WiFi in basement (and TV) . Room Lighting was harsh and no reading lights by the bed - all sockets (aplenty) on far wall so two cheap torches from Tesco and problem solved. First night WC extractor fan roared noisily all night. Only after reporting this did we find a switch high above the WC door - not intuitive and my wife couldn't reach. Accommodation very quiet - no stags no hens running amok. Cooker had a hob, microwave , grill and oven - perfect for a croissant or late night snack. Room serviced every day . Central location the BIG bonus. Noisy central london is a few steps away - M&S and Tesco (tourist prices in both) 5 mins. Key fob system was hit & miss - luckily we had two - reception will re-programme - a small nuisance. Tiny tip - we had a large office fan which combined with the aforementioned extractor dried drip dry clothes very efficiently ;-)

Room Tip: We requested street view - didn't get one but did get peace and quiet - until the morning mobile...

We have just returned from our second stay (10th/15th September) at the LSE Grosvenor House Studios. We chose it for its central location, 3 minutes walk to Covent Garden. The choice of entertainment is great, from theatres, opera and cinemas with even the vast imax all within walking distance and I am one of the golden oldies. Drury Lane is off the main traffic route being one way, the most noise we suffered from was the police helicopter. Accessing the bus service is very easy, either Kingsway or Aldwych and night buses run as well. Tube stations are close at hand, but you see more from the top deck of a bus. There is a full range restaurants and cafes close at hand. The studios are equipped with micro wave, oven, hob and fridge. The shower is, if anything a little small. Wi fi is available in the common room in the basement. The staff are always on hand to help and advise 24hrs a day. If you do fancy a bit of self catering, then just around the corner are M&S, Tescos & Sainsburys. Our one complaint, we would have liked a plug for the sink. Would we go back, yes definitely. Obtain a bus route map and tube map before planning any days out. Take a river trip from Westminster Pier, as far as Greenwich in the east or Hampton Court in the west. There are so many things to do, one visit is never enough.

Grosvenor House isn’t a ‘normal’ hotel but serves mainly as the dorm / hall of residence for the students of nearby LSE University. Out of term they make some of their rooms available to the general public.

The location is simply excellent: If you are a student at LSE staying at Grosvenor House you will be at your respective lecture theatre in less than 5 minutes. If you are a tourist you will be happy to hear that you’re basically in the middle of the West End’s theatre district. It’s also just a short walk on Long Acre street to Leicester Square, the center of London’s cinema land where the film premieres take place for example. Also, Grosvenor House is within easy walking distance to river Thames.

There are two tube stations that are both pretty close by: Covent Garden and Holborn stations both have access to the Piccadilly tube line with direct service to Heathrow airport. Holborn station in addition is also located on the Central line that gets you directly to Liverpool Street station where the trains to and from Stansted airport terminate.

The rooms all have kitchens and therefore you won’t find any restaurant or breakfast room at Grosvenor House. If you don’t like cooking you don’t have to worry as there are numerous pubs and restaurants nearby, try for example the Prince of Wales pub, located basically next door to Grosvenor House.

Though it’s a student hall of residence, it was pretty quiet at night and it was no problem getting some sleep. My room faced the Freemasons’ hall building by the way. They gave me an old key fob that didn’t work at the entrance door so I had to ring to get into Grosvenor House each time. Other guests had other room key fobs that could open the front door but they were not available for my room unfortunately and I thought that was a bit annoying.

The room was very spacious and came with a kitchen (incl. a fridge and a water kettle), a small bathroom (shower only, no bathtub), a table, a desk and a bed. Perfect for a student I guess. The kitchen utensils and overall the whole kitchen area looked scruffy I have to say unfortunately. I didn’t really fancy cooking there.

The bathroom looked clean at first sight but then the shower drain started to get clogged. I presume that hair from the previous guests were still inside the shower’s drainage system. If you want the towels to be changed you have to leave them on the bathroom floor. This usually worked well but on one day housekeeping hadn’t changed them despite having being placed on the floor.

The single bed was small and there was no bedside lamp. So to read in bed I took the lamp from the desk. Another negative point: There was no TV in the room. The room also had no air conditioning but as the road outside was quiet for most of the night it was possible to open the window to cool the room down a bit. By the way I saw there was an electric radiator to heat the room in winter. Wifi is available with an LSE student account as far as I know.

Cleanliness of the carpet, the walls etc. was OK, but certainly not perfect. The staff I met was all friendly and upbeat. Check-in and out was quick and easy, no complaints at all.

To sum things up: Grosvenor House is a very basic place in a fantastic location at a very good price.
