“Best pie in the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

This place is great for a good feed up before a night out. They have a great pie selection, all come with a choice of mash or chips, including gravy and veg. They have a wide range of fine real ales to wash you pie down. Nice friendly staff and a bonus you never have to wait long before being served for a drink or two. Nice to go after work to forget about your work troubles. Is located in an old bank and has real vibe to this pub.

“Impressive building”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

We popped in for a business lunch on Wednesday and had a pretty good meal. The venue itself has some beautiful architecture and, like lots of London buildings, is deceptively big, which you can't tell from the outside.
There is a traditional pub feel, with a good selection of beers, ales and wine. We wanted lunch and found it hard to choose anything other than one of their famous pies, which come with home-made mash, cabbage and gravy.
There are lots of flavours to choose from and I went for the old favourite steak and ale which was very good indeed. Big portions and loads of rich tasty pie filling. I must admit I was a bit disappointed that the pastry was puff rather than short-crust but at least there was pastry on the bottom and top, as a pie should be!
A couple of our party resisted the pies and had a pulled beef brisket sandwich (bread was a tiny bit dry but beef was nice & gherkins good) and a salmon fillet (no comment required really).

“Excellent pies and real ale”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2014

This is a Fullers pub, so has the full range of their real ales. A pint was quite expensive £4.25, but I thought the pies were very good value. I had Guinea foul for £11.75, which was a big portion, with a lot of meat in it. The beer was good, if a trifle expensive, and despite being busy the service was good (and there were 17 in our group). The ambience and the splendid architecture of this former bank all adds to the atmosphere. As a football lover I was also happy to watch the champions league on a big screen. In my £ value ratings I would say the food is good value for money, the beer less so.

“Just an average pub”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2014

We had lunch here today, salads and a chicken dish. The salad itself was small and dry with maybe a tablespoon of balsamic dressing, when we asked for more dressing they brought plenty but it was a sweet and sour not balsamic. The waiter took a long time to get our drinks but the London Porter was yummy the Cabernet was not. The decor is nice but no different than other pubs. The staff was friendly and thanked us as we left but unfortunately we won't be back.
