“A Hidden "Gotcha"!”
Reviewed 12 May 2012

We stayed at Ten Manchester for 4 nights in late April. It is a nice clean hotel in a good location. The staff is cordial and competent. The restaurant in the hotel is quite good. Downsides are that the rooms are very small, there is no common area where you can go and just read and relax (except in restaurant) and the price for the rooms was pretty high at 285 BCP/night. I would have rated it an overall 3 or possibly a 4 had it not been for the shock I received on check out. We sent out a small bundle of laundry and found that we had been charged 150 BCP for it. When we sent the items out, we did not see a rate sheet in the room for the laundry and we realized that the charges would be high and were prepared to pay extra for the convenience. But not 4.40 BCP per pair of socks and 6 BCP for a pair of underpants and 18 BCP for a white shirt. In nearly every case, it would have costs less to just buy new clothes rather than have them laundered there. After reviewing the charges, I discovered that we had been charged about 30 BCP for items that we did not own, so they removed those charges.
I recommend that Ten Manchester either discontinue offering laundry service altogether or that they not accept laundry unless it is accompanied by the checklist which shows what the charges will be for each item.
Otherwise, I expect future guests will have an otherwise pleasant experience at the hotel severely marred by their outrageous laundry service.

David

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for the balcony rooms, particularly if you are on the 1st floor.

My regular London accommodation, Chandos House, was fully booked so I searched on Trip Advisor and came up with this little gem. Number 10 is tucked away in fashionable Marylebone just off Baker Street in the heart of the city. Plenty of eateries nearby and the stunning Wallace Collection is just two blocks towards Oxford Street.
Number 10 is housed in an elegant brick building which has been completely transformed into a modern, sophisticated boutique hotel.
Check-in was swift and professional, the room was perfect with all the usual mod-cons. Comfortable cotton bedlinen and lots of fluffy white towels - always a good sign. A calm, quiet and uncluttered atmosphere pervades Number 10 with attentive staff on hand at all times. For guests there is a 20% discount off prices in the delightful dining area just off the reception.
As a frequent visitor to London I cannot recommend this little gem highly enough. Ten out of ten for Number 10.

The hotel is well priced compared to other London hotels it seemed, but by time you added the expensive continental breakfast and the very tiny room it really was not that reasonable.
Otherwise it was a good choice! Nice staff and great location. No Lobby!

Having stayed at this hotel several times before we were looking forward to staying again, however this time we were in the smallest room in the hotel according to the porter who showed us to our room, though he was very quick to point out that we could pay to upgrade to a larger one. As I said we have stayed previously in their petite double rooms before which have been small but well proportioned, this room however was extremely small and claustrophic, there was room only for the bed, it was an incredibly uncorfortable experience, there was an integral wardrobe but no where to put anything else except on the floor. When I did complain to the girl on reception she just shrugged her shoulders and repeated we could pay to upgrade but at £150 for room only, we did not want to, sdadly will not stay there again

Room Tip: do not book petite room, you could end up in a room the size of a cipboard !

This hotel is Super quiet and spotlessly clean. The rooms are small, but then I guess that tends to be the norm in London. I saw both junior suite and superior rooms and even the junior suite is small. The staff are so helpful and attentive - from reception to room service to turn down - everyone is friendly and professional. I didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on food. The location is just lovely- a quiet residential st in marylebone. You feel like a local rather than a tourist. Marylebone high st is 2 blocks away and can cater to any need. On the downside, the hotel lacks 'buzz'. But perhaps some people like that. I get the feeling that most residents eat and drink elsewhere . The rooms were also very warm at night- bit uncomfortable. Also no iron was provided but. I am sure one would be provided if requested. All in all, I would return . This is a lovely hotel in a great location.

Taxi drivers don't seem to know it so be prepared to assist your driver!

Room Tip: Rooms are small so be prepared

This small hotel has the potentially to be very good. The staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. The location is good and the rooms quiet enough for a good night's sleep.
However, the cooked breakfast lets it down badly. The scrambled egg was entirely tasteless and the rest of the plate showed all the signs of having been pre-cooked. In a small hotel such as this you would expect the breakfast to be much better.
We had the benefit of a garden room, which is a nice feature, and the room was very well laid out. The bathroom was a bit small for 2 people and some of the control buttons were missing from the shower controls which made adjustment a little tricky but the water pressure was great.
The bed itself was suffering from age as it dipped badly towards the middle, but it was still comfortable.
I would certainly return to this hotel but would want to know if the chef has improved before dining there.

The location is perfect with few minutes away walking from Oxford Street. I have stayed in a single room, a deluxe and a suite and my favorite was the deluxe. The rooms are kind of small but that is the norm in Europe. The hotel is renovated and the decoration is modern. I think in terms of value, this would be one of the best quality options in that area.
