Play was wonderful. I could excuse the refurbishment and also the fact that two of the four ladies toilets being out of order. What was unacceptable was the organisation. It was an appalling bun fight with overcrowding in the reception area and nobody knowing what was going on. Inevitably the play started late and a lot of us were quite agitated. Lucky the play was absolutely fantastic. You will need tissues - not just for the performance.

Great theatre with a good selection of shows. Never seen a bad show there so that's a plus. Just a really lovely small theatre where you can see great actors in unique plays.

Book early as some shows only have a small run time.

I dropped by the Arcola Theatre during its extensive refurbishment work, as part of Open House weekend. A wonderful woman led the tour: enthusiastic, knowledgeable, optimistic and entertaining. They intend to be the world's first carbon neutral theatre. A wood burning stove is being installed (the Therminator) but the beautiful oak joists are being salvaged to make lovely exposed staircases and bar stools, rather than being burned. Underfloor heating and lots of insulation will help too.

Can't wait to come back and see it when it's open as a theatre again.

We walked the performance "Golden Dragon" today and it was a very moving play. The cast was brilliant and the structure of the narrative quite clever. We then hung out at the bar and it does have good energy and wonderful character. Will definitely go back again.

I like the Arcola theatre because everytime I go I see a completely different type of performance. I don't know exactly how many 'theatres' they have but I've definitely been in two different rooms to see things. I saw Small Craft Warnings most recently (brilliant). The bar in the theatre is also worth a visit - along with an Okabasi restaurant around the corner (I'll do a seperate review on this!)
