“Mini break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

Great location very near to tube station, and plenty of restaurants, staff at this travel lodge were very friendly and polite and always there to help. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a clean and comfortable bed to sleep in at a very reasonable price with pleasant helpful staff.

This hotel could not be better placed for the money, with both the dlr & tower hill tube less than a 2 min stroll away. perfect locating for tower bridge & the tower of London attractions too.
We used this hotel as a base for my wives 40th birthday & could not have chosen better.
Check in was fast and efficient & as we had 3 rooms they made sure we were all right next to each other too ! Top class service from the staff !!
Rooms were clean, well presented and had all the basics required, yes this is a no frills hotel but you do get basic amenities like tea & coffee, shower gel etc.
Both Iron, board & hairdryers are available on request & we were told to return when finished

For amenities we drank in the Minories Bar about 30 yards from the entrance which is a cool little place underneath the train Arches, drinks were reasonably priced & food was pretty good too.
You also have a really nice Witherspoon's just across the road if thats your bag.

To sum up i would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to have a cheap getaway to London & we will book this Hotel again.

Really nice touch on checkout too , just ask reception to keep your bag (which they will do tip midnight for you) and you get an extra stay in London hassle free. they were asking for a donation to cancer research for this service at £2 per bag ! bargain

Good clean value for money hotel. Friendly staff always willing to help, go out of their way. Beds are now so comfortable, rather than the old hard type, that stuck springs in your back. Ideal hotel for the tube and buses to central london. Lovely walks around tower of london and the thames. We go to london 1 or 2 times a year and always stay here. Lovely size rooms and very large beds fab. One sideof hotel is the railway and the other a very busy loud road, so with the window open very noisy. We solved this by asking at reception for a fan, so keep cool at night in the summer. Wont stay elsewhere in london. Pub right outside very convenient. Hope this review helps

room was very poorly maintained for a recently refurbished hotel the sockets were hanging off the wall screws coming out of the rear of the bed, shower curtain was grubby and shower didnt drain properly. breakfast was brought out in dribs and drabs so you couldnt have your whole breakfast on the plate together

We booked two family rooms, one for our American relatives and the other for us. It is very easy to find from the tube, literally across the road from Tower of London easily reached by subway.
We did the tower, brilliant day. The kids didn't moan once. We had written to the Chief Yeoman Warder prior to our visit and had got free tickets to see the Ceremony of the Keys held nightly at 9pm. Absolutely fantastic, spectacular really, incredible to think that they lock up the tower this way for centuries. If you write in leave as much time as you can on your request.
We had a kids eat free deal, huge money saver. The food was hot, well cooked and tasty. Don't eat to late as they run out of items but was worth the money.
The rooms were clean, large and a little battered around the edges but for sleeping in more than adequate.
The hotel is well placed for the tube, river boats up and down the river, open top tour buses and Jack the Ripper walks.
All in all it was spot on for our travel plans on that break.

We used this hotel in March when we went to visit the Viking Exhibition at the British Museum. We arrived on a Friday night and after booking in we went to a pub next door for food and a drink. The rooms were basic but clean and the beds were comfortable. The next day we visited the exhibition as well as other sites of interest all in easy reach. Having walked all day we decided to go to a Thai restaurant in walking distance of the hotel to discover it was closed as were other restaurants and some pubs. We visited a nearby hotel which was open and were able to have a very good pub meal. The bartender told us as it was the city everything closed down at the weekend. Although a great base and staff are very welcoming and friendly be aware at the weekend the nearby restaurants and some pubs are closed.

Rooms was fairly basic but spacious though overlooking the DLR station which was not exceptionally noisy but did interrupt trying to sleep on many occasions, even with the window shut.

All in all, the room was clean, staff very friendly and helpful.
