This was the second time we've eaten at the Red Rooster Shoreditch and it didn't disappoint. Make sure you get a table near the live music, which is on every night. We booked a table at 7pm on Saturday, which we had for 2 hours. This meant that we could chat and eat (we tried the two house signature dishes - the chicken and ribs, and they were sublime) before the live band started at 9pm. This is American comfort food at its best. The cocktails, food, atmosphere are straight out of Harlem with a distinctive East London twist. The waiters were chatty, friendly and the right level of attentive, and reserved us a space at the bar from 9pm so that we could listen to the live music and enjoy some more cocktails. Every night out should be like this!

After making a reservation weeks in advance, we were given a table right next to the speakers. Our starters came out quickly, but then we had a 2hr wait for our main course, which was mediocre at best. They did buy us a bottle of wine to apologise, but we didn't actually want it because we hadn't eaten. The thing that really annoyed me was the bouncer telling my teenage son and his friend to "clear off" as soon as they got out of the door. This, after spending a fortune. Not at all like it's NYC sister restaurant. Steer clear.

It started raining so we quickly went in the Red Rooster instead of fussing around and choosing a restaurant.
Food was good but very pricy. 1920 American and nice it’s so different and not like a diner. Wish the music had suited it though as it was rather loud.
All in all, was good. Waiter said they do live music every night which is good to know. Can see it would be a good night.

Newish spot with a nice crowd of folks and some really good (if a little safe) music. The downside is that the food is just a touch dull. If you've never eaten the originals that are on offer you'd come away thinking soul food is delicately put together and the sort of thing your Mum and Dad (if you are white and Geordie like me) wouldn't find too spicy. Obviously not how it should be. There is also a slightly bossy seating policy where we had to move to the bar as soon as our mains were finished despite the other half of the restaurant being empty. A bit rich when you've just spent £95 on two sides, one starter, a main course and 4 drinks. If people want to be close to the band (we didn't) then hold those tables for them and sit us near the kitchen from the start. Please don't explain three times that we have to move when you're about to extract nearly £100 from us when we've had to watch the musicians set up for the last half hour.
