Loved it here
Within spitting distance of Charing Cross and Embankment, you find this little gem of a gallery.
Pretty compact and bijou, but plenty of great iconic photos to see. And .... it's free to get in
Javier, the Manager, was a very passionate and friendly guy who made you feel very welcome.
If you are interested in rock history, this place is worth checking out.
This gallery not to be confused with Proud Embankment or Proud Camden (its gungy location means it doubles up as a sweaty nightclub) sells photographs of fashion icons, pop stars, addicts and losers. Since 2010 it has been known as Strand Gallery. Its owner apparently used to sell Japanese antiques until his PA introduced him to a photographer. Mind you he’s staged some impressive exhibitions over the years including photos of the Kennedys, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Doubtless there are outtakes of David Bowie with a blue stripe inexplicably painted over his face, Bob Marley playing cricket and the Sex Pistols being shot. The current exhibition features works from the Dior collection. Expect a naked Yves San Laurent and any number of flighty models. Fortunately no Karl Lagernazi (gestorben) with his ludicrous pony tail in sight.
This is a great exhibition by the late photographer Brian Duffy. The guy was a genius and some of the fashion photos from the 60's are photographic art at its very best.
The Aladdin Sane photos are worth a visit in their own right.
This is a perfect exhibition for lovers of music and fashion.
A must for Prince fans and admirers of rock star photography.
Prince Exhibition is on for a limited time but the gallery is open all week and has a wide range of pop culture/rock star photography. Worth a visit.
