Where possible we use British fruit and vegetables. You can choose from traditional pub favourites such as fish & chips, seasonal delights such as roasted pheasant, or a sizzling cut of prime beef hot off the grill. Not sure what happened but after a fabulous time and meal here just before Xmas came back for a Saturday evening family event. The food was fine, needed to for the price, however the service was shockingly bad, seriously it made what was a pricey menu into a rip off. Unfortunately I shall not be back again, shame as it's a nice venue, lovely decor and good food, spoilt by the untrained and unmanaged front house of staff.

“Embarrassed by the service”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

I will never eat here again.

We arrived at 6pm for Sunday roast and ended up walking out at 7.30pm after waiting from over and hour for our main we walked out. The people who were seated 5 minutes after us got their starters before us and also their mains.
The starters was wrong. I myself ordered the marinated olives with sour dough. This came out with just the olives. When I questioned where was the rest of my starter I was told they are out of sour dough!
After waiting for 25 minutes we were then informed that they are all out of yorkshire pudding and that the chef was making more. The waitress informed us that "at least they will be fresh". I would hope they are fresh all the time! We were offered a complimentary round of drinks on top of this.
at 7.15 the table served before us even though we were seated before them received their mains with yorkshire pudding. We waited another 15 minutes and then decided to leave as after 35 minutes our mains had still not come out. No explanation as to the delay from any kind of manager.

I was made to feel embarrassed for taking guests here. Waited over an hour for our mains while others got served before us. AVOID IF POSSIBLE

“Way Overpriced.”
Reviewed 16 February 2014

Great location on the common, decorated really nice with wood fires, big lights and comfy sofas and sitting area. Visited to have dinner and had a nice large table for six in the conservatory! However the menu is so overpriced for pub food, yes it's nice food but very small portions for starters that cost £8 ! The mains are more reasonable and nice sized meal. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday night maybe this is because of the prices or maybe because of the poor service from one of the most Miserable , rude waitress's I've ever met! Took orders simply by saying "ready?" Really disappointed by her attitude as it affected the meal.

“Drinks well overpriced”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

We came to the Windmill on the Common as my son has recently moved to the area and thought it would be good to venture out for a bite to eat. Bar drinks overpriced paying £9.50 for a large glass of white wine! While it was a busy Sunday, we were lucky to be seated quickly - waitress was polite but no sooner gave us the menu wanted to take our order just far too quickly. Felt we were being rushed to place our order. Food was tasty and well served - most of us went for the Sunday roast. Dessert menu was a hit by those that had enough room to eat one. The waitress while attentive, was just too pushy and seemed to be rushing us all the time. Nice ambience and atmosphere and suitable for diners of all ages, which was evident by many young families with their children. Downside - "extras" on our bill which was nothing to do with us and when we questioned this and asked for them to be removed, the "manager" came over to see what the problem was! Isn't the customer always right and knows what was ordered in the way of food and drinks.
