I found it really interesting. I'm crazy into planes and stuff so.... they've got a LOT of planes. Interactive exhibits were all out of order though (i took off a star for that), but i didn't mind

Visited for the first time since 2012. Major disappointment. Whilst the world class collection still exists major changes in the layout make it feel like walking around a scattered bunch of random exibits. A chipmunk and a phantom engine under a Vulcan. Ww2 and cold war airframes together. There doesnt appear to be a coherent theme anymore and the closure of the Battle of Britain hall came as an unhappy shock to me. Someone taking small children there would be hardpushed to tell them the RAF story. In addition catering was apalling. Despite their being three on site eating places by 3pm only one was open and that only sold tea and cakes. Couldnt buy a sandwich anywhere. There is no published guide anymore. The whole place feels scruffy. Staff were great but it feels like the institution itself is in decline. I really hope this can be turned around because the site deserves a world class museum. Summary. Its free and a 7 year old will love it. Its not what it was last time i visited in 2012 though

With heavy heart RAF Museum Hendon remains as disappointing as our last visit 3 years ago.

Despite an extensive refurbishment many of the exhibits and displays still look tired, broken or not finished yet (most notably the kids interactive gallery that has less working in it then our last visit!).

Add in the appalling mismanagement of Claude’s restaurant where no one seemed to be in charge or know what they are doing and RAF Museum Hendon was a major fail all round.

Being pilots and deeply interested in military aviation, the RAF museum in Hendon is a pilgrimage for my wife and I. This time we visited after a long gap and found the museum buildings had been spruced up and some new exhibits added.

There are several large hangers housing examples of warbirds from WWI till date. The aircraft are very well maintained by volunteers, who are also knowledgeable and more than willing to answer questions.

There is a Eurofighter simulator and opportunity to sit and be snapped in a Spitfire cockpit. A small donation is required for these facilities. A new addition is a hangar with interactive displays which we did not visit.

There is a huge souvenir shop guaranteed to bring out the child in you! Two restaurants cater to your hunger needs.

Take the Northern Line (Tube) to Collindale station (not Hendon station!), then a bus from right outside for a ten minute ride to just in front of the museum. Alternately, a 15 minute walk from the station to the museum gate.

The first museum I ever went to in London (Sept. 1992) and, needless to say, I've been back about a dozen times. Another great FREE museum, it has everything an airplane enthusiast could want. They have opened new exhibits (the World War I hangar was wonderful) and you could spend hours here. Great for kids with some simulators available at an extra charge. Very helpful staff, as I have found at most museums in Great Britain. Take the Northern Line Edgeware Road branch (black on the tube map) to Colindale (zone 4). I highly recommend hopping on the 303 bus, which stops just outside the station entrance and goes into the museum grounds. You can walk, it's about 15-20 minutes.
