Good for: Romantic, Business meetings, Special Occasion Dining
Dining options: After-hours, Dinner, Lunch, Reservations
Neighbourhood: Covent Garden
Description: Bar the pun, this Italian in the middle of the Strand has plenty to commend it: a friendly atmosphere, warm lighting, and an innate 18th century charm, thanks to the original wood panelling. The back half of this narrow strip of a restaurant is officially a cosy bar, but in practice two thirds of the space is used to seat diners fond of pasta and the satisfying sauces that accompany them. If the best- selling steak in a blue cheese sauce sounds too rich, you may prefer a more earthy bangers and mash or roast beef. There is no (printed) dessert menu; it changes so regularly that your waiter will recite the (on average) seven choices to you

“Quaint”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Wonderfully food, wonderful service and a guaranteed evening to remember. You may have a small wait if you haven't prebooked, little snacks and water as soon as you sit down. A menu that makes you want to order everything. Food seems to arrive in no time and you are not pressured to leave as soon as you have finished.

We ate at the Arquati today on a very quiet saturday lunchtime, that said we were very pleased with our lunch. The staff were friendly and the service was good and we will definitely return - just disappointing it has taken us so long to find it!

“Excellent little family-run Italian. Now called Arquatis”
Reviewed 16 February 2012

Definitely a good find. A family-run restaurant on one of the main street in Central London!

Funny little place - very easy to walk past - We have now done so twice. BUT it is right next to the Adelphi Theatre, so no excuse really.
Service is efficient - a bit slow with the bill, (we had to get up to go before they brought us the bill once!!) but that is only an issue if you have theatre tickets.
Tasty food, with a fairly standard bistro menu, well cooked and well presented. Vegetables are definitely fresh - none of your tasteless overcooked green here! Nice wine list.
Very friendly but definitely professional staff.
This is not black-tie fine dining, but it is pretty damn good. Not cheap, but then this is central London! If you want cheap go to Macdonalds.
Always busy, so book a table and get there early.

“Great food, lovely people.”
Reviewed 1 February 2012

It was my wife’s 50th birthday, I booked the restaurant after seeing the reviews, Never been before.
The table was decorated, and a birthday card was placed on her seating place.
We were made very welcome, and had a lovely 3 course lunch, with drinks, and coffees.
At the end of the meal, a surprise cake was produced, and the staff sang happy birthday. What a nice touch !!!
The food was great, a limited lunchtime menu, but very well presented, and at reasonable cost,
£145.00 for five adults, 3 courses, plus drinks, central London, Excellent value for money.
Would definitely eat here again.
Many thanks,

Alan
