Food good..but hardly anything on the plate,I think Gordon needs a few quid as he scrimps on the food..my husband ordered a rice pudding for afters and requested the large portion, when it arrived he told the waiter he ordered the large one and he said it was..there was 2 table spoons there...couldn't stop laughing at my husbands face....

“Almost there....”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Overall a very good experience. Everything (save the ravioli) was very tasteful. But the major drawback of Maze is missing the air of effortless performance of great restaurants. Seemed slightly pompous and trying too hard which was evident to the trained eye. Best dish we had was the mousse de foie gras. The sushi platter very good but Nobu does it slightly better. Halibut was excellent. The lobster, prawns and salmon ravioli was nothing to write home about ; better try the one cooked by Joel Robuchon at his Atelier. Bread was mediocre; needs revisiting. Wine list good and extensive but an iPad wine list not quite chic... Unfortunately they had run out of their signature dessert, the "molecular" lemon mousse.

“Good Food - Good Service but ...”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

even though we arrived on time, we still had to wait about 75 mins for our table.
We were given a complimentary drink but for Gordon Ramsay I expected to have been seated within a reasonable time of arrival as we were not late.
The food was excellent but the prices were outrageous! It was definitely worth it but will not be doing this regularly!

“Michelin dining - It is what it is, and it does it very well”
Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

I normally like to have a mega rant and right extensive, perhaps unnecessarily long, reviews.

Maze however requires little extra to be said that is not already apparent from its Michelin status and Gordon Ramsey association. Let's not beat around the bush, it is extremely expensive. The portions are small but one is supposed to choose a few to sample chef's talents. If you want an obviously filling meal with three courses go somewhere else! If you want to experience a truly remarkable variety of tastes then give Maze a go. Each course holds a number of flavours, and my palate has never experienced such a diverse and sometimes genius combination of ingredients.

Maze is what it is, and it does it very well. Some may argue the waiting staff feel a little forced, like they are trying too hard, however their friendliness is undeniable. The sommeliers are excellent. Overall I genuinely felt that they cared about our dining experience.

There are some parts of the meal that perhaps I didn't love as much as another, but if someone who avoids fish, cold starters and raw vegetables had six of seven courses containing exactly that and loved every mouthful they have to be doing something right. We didn't like the fortified wine pairing that went with the two deserts, but that is personal taste - the deserts themselves were lovely.

If you want to try Michelin starred food and have a few hundred quid to blow on a special occasion I'd strongly recommend Maze, I would say it is better than Heston's Fat Duck and at £333 for two, nearly half the price of my bill alone at Heston's.

If you go with the wrong expectations, or are not aware what Michelin dining implies, I think you'll be very disappointed. Go with the expectation to pay big money for wonderful food that dazzles the taste buds and you'll leave happy! BTW - the cheese board although tiny was delightful.
