Description: The Rubens at the Palace is located on London's Buckingham Palace Road and plays home to the Rubens restaurants. The Old Masters' Restaurant serves some of London's finest traditional cooking, including a sensational rib of Aberdeen Angus with Yorkshire pudding and a mouth-watering buffet laden with delicious dishes. This grand carvery and grill room oozes old-world charm and elegance. The Library Restaurant serves award-winning modern British food in an intimate, relaxed environment with comfortable armchairs and a traditional-style decor. Its 2 AA Rosette standard cuisine features signature dishes including Cornish scallops or a delectable combination of Irish and Scottish salmon carved at your table and followed by New Forest venison or Dedham Vale fillet of beef. The Palace Lounge follows through from the Cavalry Bar and is a magnificent bright open space with views of the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace, the Queen's stables. This is a great vantage point from which to spot the passing pageantry, a daily occurrence being so close to the palace! Guests love to enjoy an afternoon tea and watch the world go by, or at night a liqueur in one of the cosy armchairs. In the evenings, a pianist provides lively music and entertainment, helping guests relax and unwind in friendly surroundings.

This is the 2nd year we've had Christmas Dinner at Rubens and this year was better than last. They were kind enough to substitute a course that nether myself or my husband liked with something else, and the whole meal was delicious. We even had a visit from Santa who knew everyone by name which was a nice touch! The restaurant seemed a little quieter this year than last but it didn't spoil our enjoyment of the meal.

Having spent the day in London celebrating our 50th birthdays this year; we booked a table at the carvery with a discount connected to our Billy Elliot tickets. The staff were most attentive and courteous, especially the gentleman in the bar who took our coats and brought our rather expensive aperitifs and nibbles over. The meal was lovely, although we were the only table left as everyone else went off to the theatre!! So it lacked atmosphere but we didn't mind. The desserts, once we got some as they seemed to have run out, were delicious. The chocolate mousse was sublime and the salted caramel sticky toffee pudding was bliss!
The only down side was receiving the bill... our £18.50 per head had lept to £45 once we had had wine and coffee which was a bit of a shock, oh and tip. Otherwise a lovely meal in a lovely setting. We had normally always gone to the BBar which is attached to the hotel but this made a great alternative. I would recommend it as long as you are used to London prices for your drinks!

REVIEW BY JACQUELINE MALCOLM: We just spent 2 magical, wonderful nights at The Rubens at the Palace Hotel and it was one of the best Christmas's we've ever had. From start to finish - from the reservations staff to the doorman - this hotel by far excells in customer service.

We enjoyed their Magical Christmas package and not only did they meet our every expectation but they exceeded it at every point. I have no idea what a General Manager of a hotel has to do to make their staff soooooo incredibly helpful, kind, friendly, happy whilst still maintaining their level of utter professionalism but The Rubens by the Palace General Manager has nailed it!!! I absolutely give this hotel 100 stars and when my 73 year old mother thanked me for 'the best Christmas of her life' I couldn't wait to post my open thanks to all the management and staff of this OUTSTANDING hotel.

Thank Jacqueline M
