A good location near train/underground station, the only positive thing! Poor service, cleanliness,a breakfast room too small with too many tables, room too small for two adults and a child. We enjoyed very much London and hope to be back but we will never be (and never suggested to anyone!) back to Elmwood Hotel!

The receptionist was friendly and professional. 'We don't have single rooms here,' he said, 'so we've put you in a triple.' I'm glad they did, as it was the smallest triple room I've ever seen in my life. The so-called double bed was narrower than its two pillows, and had sheet, scratchy blanket, and bobbly bedspread; it was OK for one person, but I'd hate to have to share. There were two power points, one behind the bed, one behind the drawers of the desk, so to recharge laptop and phone I had to move both pieces of furniture. When I arrived the room REEKED of bleach, as if neat bleach was being used to flush the toilet; I couldn't find the source of the smell, which persisted well into the night. Having said that, it was very clean, and quiet by London standards as I was at the back (with a view of walls and barbed wire which was adorned with a single mouldy sock). The noise came from inside: doors banging, people moving around upstairs, someone's noisy bathroom fan which they left on for HOURS. Breakfast offered some choice but very poor quality, apart from the real butter: tinned fruit cocktail, fruit yogurts, anaemic sliced meat, hard-boiled eggs, toasted sliced white bread (brown didn't seem to be an option), two kinds of cereal, jam, processed cheese triangles. There are 20 seats in the breakfast room, but if they were all taken, there would be no room to move between the tables. This hotel has 37 rooms, so can presumably accommodate at least 75 people (if this is the only triple and all the others are doubles), probably more than that, so it must be horrendous when it's full. The other guests all seemed to be tourists. The hotel is cheap, and the location is excellent, but I'd be very happy not to stay here again. Check out some of the others round Argyle Square, surely there's a better option.

Room 36 is not on the third floor it's in the basement.
Unbelievably grotty at £180:00 for the smallest bedroom I've ever seen with a double and single bed shoehorned in.
The En-suit shower leaked all over the tiny room, the kettle didn't work, when I wanted to go to bed the bottom sheet had a horrid yellow stain ugh!
The continental breakfast was a joke consisting of horrid cheap white toast, the milk for the cornflakes had turned and the reconstituted orange juice was nasty.
The Travel Lodge or Premier Inn next time

Room Tip: I wouldn't bother at all

We stayed here for 3 nights in April!
Location was perfect! (Couldn't have picked a better location)
The price was so cheap!
Hotel was ideal.. Had everything we needed, we only really slept in the hotel.
Bed was comfy, room and bathroom were clean, room was small but ideal and perfect for us!
Only issue my partner had was the noise of other guests and people in the street, I was fine with this. But my fiancé got a bit annoyed. However that isn't the hotels fault.
Didn't have breakfast, staff were friendly!
If you aren't fussy this is the place to stay!

Room Tip: We requested a room with a window balcony and sat out on it for cigarettes.. Don't think we were...

Even better location than we were expecting, two seconds from the exit from Kings cross, really good transport links, in a lovely green square. Room was just big enough for four, we got what we paid for, bathroom was a little on the small side but wasn't an issue. Breakfast was well planned and delicious, fresh toast brought straight to our table. Comfy beds, clean rooms and a really good price. Definitely stay again.

The double room we had was very cramped indeed. There was plaster coming off the walls. The kettle was right next to the bed, so if we had left it there overnight, it's likely one of us would have knocked it onto ourselves. The tv remote wasn't working. The tap in the bathroom was extremely loose. i couldn't find a socket that would actually work to charge my phone other than an extension lead shoved behind a bedside table so was very unsure on their electrics. couldn't fit the kettle underneath the loose tap to fill up with water as it was so tiny, so had to fill it up by filling a glass up bit by bit. And for a double room we had only one cup so had to take it in turns to be able to have a cup of tea. The breakfast wasn't overly exciting, and we didn't get very good service at all during the stay. The only good thing was that it was literally 5 minutes walk to Kings Cross St. Pancras station. However, for the money for the room i was extremely disappointed in the standard - it felt more like a hostel.

We stayed here for 3 nights for a site seeing trip. The reception service was friendly and efficient. There's no lift and we were up 2 flights of stairs so carrying your cases up could be hard work for some. The room wad pretty small but it was clean, the bed was comfy and it had a perfectly clean toilet and shower. It was a bargain compared to a lot of places near to King's Cross. The safe wouldn't work in the room so we were offered use of the reception safe until it was fixed but we ended up leaving our valuables there as it was free rather than the £2 per day for the room safe. They also charge £5 per luggage item if you want to leave them after you check out but i explained no one had told me about a charge when i called to ask about luggage storage and we were allowed to leave them free of charge. Breakfast was fine, toast, jam, ham, cheese, boiled eggs, cereals, yoghurts, juices, tea
and coffee although the tea and coffee were a bit ropey. On the downside people have a tendency to stand outside the row of hotels (the park in the middle of the square is locked at night) and drink and smoke and they can sometimes be very loud until 2/3 in the morning. We were also woken by some very rude and loud guests who had the bedrooms either side of us. Slamming doors is bad enough at 6 in the morning but when they were running late for their airport pickup at 4.30am they were horrendous. The hotel can't really be blamed for this although they could do with putting some soft closers on the doors. All in all a good choice except for the inconsiderate guests.
