I travel 75% of the time on business and my views about hotels come down to 3 things - location - room size/condition (includes the maid) - services (not the maid but housekeeping mgmt, front desk and room service).

At this hotel I got 2 out of 3. The location was great. You can easily walk to very cool London sights on every point of the compass.

The room was good too. It was decent sized, well appointed and it was kept pretty clean (though they could have a few more TV stations).

The services was the big miss - particularly the Front Desk. I learned there is no true customer service orientation with most of the people at the Desk. They give different answers to the same questions. Make up answers to make you go away. Promise things that never happen and on and on.

My prime example was it took 3 days and 4 specific requests to get an empty laundry bag. First, why wasn't there always one in my closet? Second, why 4 tries?

I'd asked to speak to the "Customer Services Manager" a couple times and was promised it would happen but never did. I really don't think those guys even exist.

It's too bad as my 1st two criteria were positive. I'm an independent traveler and don't need much but the services element delivered less than that.

I won't be back and have advised our travel desk to look to other options for our company's travelers.

Heard so much about this place in terms of location, wine, food and accommodation! Location is first rate as is the entrance and bar. Checkin is a little different as in self service, rooms are very very very tired and if you want an ironing board go to the laundry closet! This place would have been luxury in the late 80's early 90's but then again that was over 25 years ago and the world has moved on!

The perfect place to stay in London. Staff are very helpful and friendly the hotel itself is stunning to look at with lovely well kept clean rooms. Location wise you would struggle to find anywhere better for the price you pay. Overall we will be staying here each time we visit London from now on.

My husband surprised me with a last minute booking for a date night in London, perfect location for Leicester Sq - just a short walk (5mins).

Rooms were very clean and basic, no bath. Bed was very comfy and we both had a great nights sleep, staff were very helpful and attentive.

Bad :

Very dirty room, full of dust.
Calcareous water tap.
Rusty litter bin.
Full dust under the bed.
Painting in the bathroom was very dirty- fingers and other marks. If you do not believe I can provide photos.
RECEPTION- When we arrived at the hotel lady blond hair made us feel uncomfortable- she haven't got name. What we herd first was yes, and no Hallo welcome or Hi. She shoed that she is unhappy. No smile at all. I felt guilty that I arrived her. She told us room number, She give us lift cards and said that all the information is in the room; Sorry but I expected much much more then pay good money for to feel humiliated and uncomfortably.

What was good:

When we vas leaving hotel staff was polite and quick guy with curly hair was very polite thank you for him. Sorry I did not watch for name. If that lady at the beginning will be this same it will make a different.
Very comfortable bed.
Free water and ice machine service.
Excellent location.
Good facilities.

Stayed here in October last year on a business trip to London. I can honestly say it is the best hotel i've stayed in.

The location is perfect. The extras are endless and the service and cleanliness is spot on.

For the price, it is exceptional value.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front get a nice view of Nelson's Column.

About one block from Charing Cross tube station, 1/2 block from Trafalgar Square and the Thames, location is everything. The price is better than anything remotely close, so it's a slam dunk. Rooms are nice, and there's a nice bar and restaurant. Plenty of shopping, restaurants and a greenway along the Thames. Easy walk to the London Eye across the bridge.

Room Tip: upper floors are quieter.
