Best parts of the Prince Edward are the location, in an upscale Notting Hill neighbourhood, the cosy layout and friendly staff. Outside tables are great for people-watching. A couple more "real ales" on tap and a some more modern menu items would make this place ideal.

Enjoyed the atmosphere however food was mediocre. I think we were there on a night when there were not many locals, even the staff were not British!

We stayed in Notting Hill at a London Perfect apartment for a week in May. London Perfect always provides a very comprehensive guide to the local area. They recommended a pub that was a favourite of locals: The Prince Edward. Our last visit to an English pub must have been over 15 years before. Our memory was of smoke-filled air and marginal food. We knew things had changed but were so pleasantly surprised by the food, service, and environment within The Prince Edward. The first night we sat at the bar and had a really good Badgers ale and shared a serving of fish and chips. The fish was haddock and very well prepared. Because the previous leg of our trip was a wonderful voyage on the Queen Mary 2 from New York, we wanted to eat more casually this week. So we ended up returning to The Prince Edward two other times. Each time we really enjoyed the diverse menu, the neighbourhood feel of the environment and the quality of service provided by Virginia, our server who was from Spain, and her colleagues which was very friendly and professional.

Had supper here on a World Cup night. Predictably busy but we did snag a table. Service was prompt and friendly. I appreciated the fact that when the barman thought there was too much foam on top of one glass he spooned some out and refilled. Classy. Good selection of cold beers and ciders and cellar temp beers. Broad wine selection.

Better selection of food on the menu than a lot of pubs. Everyone around us seemed to enjoy their selections. We had one of their platters to share. It was nicely presented and the food was all good.

We'll be back!

We are locals and have lived on Hereford Road since 1995. The deterioration of Prince Edward, our neighborhood stalwart, is saddening.

Most recently it is staffed by several uninterested foreign students, who care more about their nails than serving their customers.

Gone are the basic last call courtesies. In their place are rude adolescents who ignore customers unless tipped, or they are their own friends.

Perhaps justifiable in a neighborhood where most people are tourists and will never return.

We won't either. We will migrate to one of the many excellent and courteous pubs nearby, like the Bonaparte, whose service is outstanding and whose staff have been serving customers with a courteous smile for a half dozen years.

Other more courteous pubs nearby include the Phoenix, the Kings Head, the Prince Alfred and the Porchester.

Fare ye well, Prince Eddie.
