Description: Mabels Tavern is a traditional English pub with a variety of different ales but emphasis is placed on a varied food menu. The ales are highly regarded and have regularly won awards from CAMRA.Mabel's Tavern apparently takes its name from a local woman, Mabel Macinelly who was born in Dublin, Ireland. She married into the family who owned Hamilton House in Mabledon Place and became Mabel Hamilton. Not much information is known about Mabel except that she owned a cat called Felix and she died in the 1970s. Since her death she has been known to revisit the pub and on one occasion she called the landlady's name repeatedly in the early hours of the morning. She has also been known to operate the dumb waiter that used to stand in the pub - this is a little eerie as the dumb waiter was ripped out of the pub several years ago. The occupants have heard it in operation in the early hours of the morning but when they investigated there was nothing to be seen.It has also been said that Mabel had a grandaughter who has recently visited the Tavern when researching her family. If you know anything about Mabel and her life in Dublin or London we would be fascinated to hear from you.

“Busy local pub with a good vibe”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2014 via mobile

Went to Mables for dinner as we were staying around the corner- literally. What a terrific pub! Good, honest food at a reasonable price in a vibrant atmosphere. The place was pleasantly busy (on a Tuesday night) with a convivial crowd and happy staff which made for a really enjoyable experience. Would return to Mables when next in London for an authentic British local pub offering.

“fair representation of central london pub, with food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2014

i go here about 4 times a year ,when im in this part of central london.its almost opposite st pancras station, therefore between euston and kings cross stations.Due to its location it attracts many local workers and gets very busy after 5pm on a friday,as its location makes 'getting home' relatively easy.space is limited and a number of tables are often reserved, making it standing room only.there is seating outside, normally the place for us smokers but in summer it can be quite pleasant as its a way back from the incessantly busy euston rd.a reasonable, wide variety of beers/lagers from a brewery not 'usually' found in london.there is a tv showing sports mainly.i would'nt call it a sports bar as most people seem to be talking.the menu seems to cater more for a 'lunchtime trade'.i would imagine its a 'good place ' to visit, were i a tourist here in london,as it would suit me as a place to sit down for an hour, whilst planning my next activity or just enjoy the ambience of what in london i'd call "a decent pub"...prices are fair for the location

“Lively pub with plenty of atmosphere”

Very busy little pub showing live sport which had to compete with the music. Food available too and the Guinness was good.

“Used to be good”

Gone down hill recently. Used to have strong customer base but that has clearly disappeared. This was my local for 10 years but no more

“Good real ale”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2014

Called in earlier this week with some colleagues for a drink. Real ale was really good. Somewhat surprised that they refused to serve people who came in after last orders but before time, but that said policy is up to the licensee.
