A friend and I were staying at the Novotel while at a convention in the ExCel, and we slipped back to the hotel between a long day and a party that night. Even though they were very busy and we hadn't booked, they found a table for us (and not one shoved off in a corner somewhere). Very attentive and efficient staff, a reasonably-priced set menu with a good variety of food, and an equally reasonable wine list. The food was quite nice, and the atmosphere relaxing, even as busy as it was--it really gave us a bit of a relaxing boost before getting back to Doing Things.
The next night we ate in the bar rather than the restaurant, and that was nice as well--it has the illusion of being quieter than it is, so we had a relaxing drink and some conversation while the people at the next table laughed it up, and neither of us ever bothered the other.
