“Fantastic”
Reviewed 8 August 2013

Wanting to be close to friends in the East End, as well as The City, we tried out this place on a recent long weekend in London. We weren't disappointed. The building is wonderful and the refit has preserved the old council chamber. The staff were friendly and helpful and room service extremely fast. Travelling with our baby, we were delighted to have an apartment with a kitchen, allowing us to prepare food for her etc, and the ability to cook for ourselves and have a glass of wine in the evening absent a babysitter. The room was spacious with a nice bathroom, loads of storage space and a lovely bed. There is a small gym and a nice pool. We didn't make it to the Michelin starred restaurant, Viajante, as it is closed on several days and was full on the days it was open, so do book in advance if you want to go there. Bethnal Green has it's moments but is certainly not the West End, so first time visitors to London, or those who don't know the capital well, might be a little horrified by the location. However, this is reflected in the price and you are very close to great places like Spitalfields, Shoreditch, Hoxton and Colombia market. Westfield is also just two stops away on the tube. We would definitely stay again.

Dear Guest, Let me thank you for your kind review written on Tripadvisor. I am really happy to read that you were not disappointed with the choice you made and that everything contributed to enhance your experience here. I am glad to read your note about using our hotel when travelling with the family since we had some guest who showed perplexity in this matter. We welcome our guests with their families and we have rooms suitable not only for a family of 3 or four member but even larger. Like we say all the time, I agree with you, this is not the West End and this is the sensation you have as soon as you come out of the subway station, but soon after you realize that you are in the vibrant trendy heart of the town with the locations you mentioned but also with some even more close (walking distance) like Broadway Market, London Fields and Victoria park. We cannot wait to welcome you again in our hotel! Many Thanks and kind regards Sandro Desole

We had 3 different room types during our stay, all very beautiful, spacious and clean. The staff were wonderful. The hotel has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It would be hard to find hotel rooms so spacious in London. The only downfall with this hotel is its location. The area is very grungy and bleak.

Dear Guest, thank you for your nice words left on Tripadvisor. We are always happy when the guest enjoys the stay with us and grasps our very personal philosophy of hospitality. We are also happy when from you understand from the words of the reviews that every single room you are in is a different nice experience. We have repeating guests that want to try every time a new room with the “first stay” feeling but counting on our famous customer pampering care! As per the location, I am with you, we are not in Kensington or Chelsea but right under the “popular” look of our area you will discover a colourful world made of regional markets with spices and Vintage, quirky “home cooking” restaurants, art galleries and movies studios..all one step away from the hotel. This is the reason why we are here, to be in the centre of the operation of one of the most trendy and vibrant parts of London and the world. Many Thanks and kind regards Sandro Desole

Very nice hotel close to a underground-station. Great atmosphere, very friendly people and beautiful rooms. What more can you desire. The neighbourhood is OK, near the V&A Childhood museum. 15 minutes from the City Centre by underground. If you love old combined with new, this is the hotel where you want to stay!

Dear Guest, thank you for these insightful and thorough words written in your concise and on point review left on Tripadvisor. It is a real summarization of the character of the Town Hall Hotel: Guest Care at the highest level in a fantastic building nestled in one of the most gentrified and colourful areas of London. We looking forward to your next visit!

This hotel was perfect in the sense that we were able to get a family of five into an apartment as part of a hotel complex - that's not easy to do in London. The rooms and amenities in the rooms were fantastic - in fact, it could not be faulted.

However, the rest of the hotel doesn't really cater for children - perhaps unashamedly it's not trying to. Kids can't jump into the pool, the food isn't priced or designed for children and there's no other facilties for youngsters.

Thank you to the staff who were very friendly and helpful.

Dear Guest, I would like to thank you for your words left on Tripadvisor.I am pleased to read that our rooms once again are the right choice for a family visiting London. I could not help but to notice about your experience being shadowed by the restrictions of our building. Let me apologise for this. Just to clarify, our hotel is a listed building and sometimes what is design and styled does not go hand to hand with what is practical but also we are to follow H&S rules. On the other hand, we have Xboxes with a lot of games available and Children movies and cartoons to be rented free of charge in order to welcome our young guests. In the lobby then “Billy-Willy” our stuffed dog, the hotel mascot, and Nelson and Nellie, our charity gold fish, are available for a quick play or to be delivered in the room. As per the bistro menu, it is true that both our restaurants being 1 Michelin star have a fine dining menu but please make sure you ask the chef next time if something can be arranged for your children, I am pretty confident that they will go the extra mile to assist you. I am sorry to read that we missed the goal of your full satisfaction and we would like to have you back, more than welcomed with your family, in order to use all our facilities to the full! Many Thanks and Kind Regards, Sandro Desole

My family stayed at Town Hall for 3 nights in early July during our first trip to London. Our apartment style room was beautiful, it was spacious and very clean. The staff were wonderful. The only downfall with this hotel is its location. The hotel is located in a very run down area and not near the City Centre. Your view from the hotel is less than desirable. The restuarant food was very limited and not good at all. I would not recommend this hotel for your first trip to London.

Dear Guest, I would like to thank you for your honest review left on Tripadvisor. I am glad to read that the hotel room and the staff are always our signature and that the cleaning standards of our building are one of our most appreciated qualities. In regards to the location, like we said few times in past, we know it is not the West end with all the Victorian Houses and the Rolls-Royce at the doorstep, but I am a firm believer in our area, where one step away you find two of the most classis London Markets, Spitalfield and Columbia Road. A various area with a lot of little excellent restaurants, in the immediate hotel neighbourhood, the Spice Capital of the world, the Vintage most famous area and the heart of street art and graffiti. It is a gentrified and up and coming area where everyone can find his dimension. As per the restaurant food, this is a gourmet experience, every plate being carefully prepared with chosen ingredients in order to tickle you taste and play with your fantasy. It is what our chef patron “Nuno” put on the table as a result of his travelling all over the world. A foodie menu which satisfies the most exigent appetite. Obviously it is quirky therefore you might not like it in the first place, but it is worthy to give “Nuno” a second chance! Thank you and kind regards, Sandro Desoled

We were pleasantly suprised upon arriving at this hotel, as it definitely was value for money! Walking into their huge foyer with Town Hall's friendly staff, everyone was more than eager to assist us with our bags and make check in completely simple (very helpful after a long flight). The rooms were spacious, clean and basically complimented everything we needed and more.

Whilst the hotel is not in a "touristy" area, it is surrounded by funky bars and fantastic restaurants and is literally only a couple of minute walk to the tube station (it's also on the same line as the main attractions so you wont need to change tubes to get into the centre of town)

The staff were always eager to help, giving us restaurant tips, attraction tips and were overall helpful and friendly.

Would definitely recommend this hotel again and again!

I got married this weekend and have to say that staying at the Town Hall Hotel in the run up and on my wedding night made it even more special. Simply amazing room, amazing service. My bridemaids asked so many favours (more champagne flutes, robes, safety pins etc etc!) and all the staff were so kind and beyond helpful. Breakfast in bed was the perfect luxury the next day and the hotel made a beautiful backdrop for the wedding pictures. I think we're going to make a stay with you an anniversary treat. Thanks a million. Keely Slate

Room Tip: I looked quite alot of rooms (one of my only bridezilla moments) and they were all stunning. I chose...

Dear guest, what a nice review left on Tripadvisor! Thank you for your kind words which underlines how much you enjoyed your special day. Believe me we enjoyed it as well! Weddings are always nice occasions, with a lot of people coming, everything being prepared, your smiles..but they are also a challenging moment, everything being on a tight schedule, last minute issues in need to be taken care of, and other requests that need to be followed up. This is where a professional team comes along, like we always say to the wedding couple and the parents: “all you need to do is say Yes at the appointed moment, the rest is our pleasure!” I am glad to read that everyone responded with the highest customer care. Rest assured we will wait for you on your anniversary, but even before, and we will welcome again with our “amazing sevice”. Many thanks and kind regards, Sandro Desole
