“Lovely hotel”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Stayed here in august with my boyfriend for 2 nights, the hotel is absolutely lovely, great service as soon as you arrive. the room was really nice, very spacious, the shower was amazing, had speakers in so you can play your iPod through them. Its definitely a 5 star hotel, the reason it was so cheap is because its quite out the way and not close to a tube station, however the hotel offer a free shuttle service to the nearest tube station which is helpful. The spa is lovely too, its on the top floor of the hotel. Would defiantly stay here again!

Modern, spacious, luxurious and comfortable. Only minor gripe is the lack of lighting in the room which makes them very dark in the evenings. The location, views and staff are all wonderful would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Try for a view of the Thames

My boyfriend and I stayed there for one night as part of their 1 night spa package as it was our anniversary. We got there and it was hard to see where parking is so my boyfriend had to go to reception to get them to open the shutter doors so we could get in but they explained its like that for security reasons so I guess it was understandable yet a little bit of hassle. The women at the spa were friendly and really helpful. We had out 30 minute massage each which was really relaxing then went into the spa for a while. When we came out our room was not ready and would not be for an hour but we had something to do for that hour. When we came back we came to our room our bed was covered in rose petals and they left us chocolates with a happy anniversary card as I did mention this on the phone so it was a lovely surprise. As the website advertises amazon suites and not rooms we did not really know what to expect and we did not have a bath but a power shower instead. The room was spacious and comes with many sockets so you can plug in things like dvd players and playstations :) Room service was brilliant food was absolutely lovely. The restaurant was really lovely the waiters were very helpful especially as my boyfriend and I have allergies to nut and gluten. Dinner came quick and tasted wonderful. Breakfast was lovely too although my boyfriend did get his coffee cold but they happily replaced it for him. A wide variety for breakfast which I very much liked and food was really good for continental breakfast but for the all day breakfast which my boyfriend found it slightly undercooked. Overall a lovely experience, service was flawless, would stay there again maybe see for a bigger room but overally very satisfied :)

Room Tip: I was in 305 - though the view is not the best, it is practically next to the spa which we could hav...

This is an absolutely beautiful hotel. We loved how modern it was and how they really made an effort to be energy conscious. As a techy couple, this was right up our alley. It is about a 15 minute walk to a metro station although the walk to the hotel didn't feel quite safe when walking at night. But we obviously managed. This would have been a perfect hotel if it wasn't for the advertised shuttle service. It was the least convenient of any shuttle service we have ever used before. Prior to our trip, I called to inquire about it and they said to call when we reached the airport and they would arrange the shuttle at that time. Great! We called when we arrived and they asked what time to pick us up. As we had never been to London (or even EUROPE), we had no idea how long the metro would take to get to the station for pickup so they said 12:45 (it picks up at the :15 and :45 minute mark) would be fine. The metro took way longer than expected so at 12:40 I called and said we wouldn't get there in time. They said call when we arrived. At 1:10 we arrived and they said the 1:15 pickup was now too full so we had to walk or take a bus to the hotel. And that is where the conversation ended. There were no suggestions for a bus to take or how to walk there (with our 2 backpacks and 3 luggage). I guess we just had to figure it out ourselves. We opted to take a taxi which thankfully, the hotel reimbursed us for after they could tell our displeasure. The next morning we walked down at 8:50 and asked for the shuttle to which they said 9:00 was already full but they could take us at 9:30. Now with the knowledge to book way ahead, we booked the next day with over an hour in advance notice. It was then that we realized why it was so hard to get a shuttle. It was only 4 seats in what can only be described as a work van. That night, I made sure to call ahead for a pickup. I called at 7:05 PM for a 7:45 pickup at the metro station and they said no problem. We got to the station for pickup at 7:35. By 7:55 we called to see what was the problem since nobody had come to pick us up. The person on the phone said she couldn't find our reservation anywhere. I was IRATE. She asked to call me back. A few minutes later she called and said she did see our reservation now and the driver is just stuck in traffic. Funny how the story suddenly changed when they sensed our anger. Finally the driver got there at about 8:20 as we were just about to hire another taxi. We complained when we arrived back at the hotel and they offered us two free breakfasts (which we never used) for our inconvenience. So overall, they always attempted to fix the issue which we greatly appreciate, but it is just a word of advice to not rely on the shuttle as it is not as convenient as one would hope for. If it wasn't for the shuttle, it would have been a PERFECT stay. It would have just been less of a hassle if there was not a shuttle to aggravate us at all.

my friend and I stayed for 4 nights in this lovely hotel. the rooms are spacy, modern, luxurious and clean. we dined in the restaurant a couple of nights. the food was delicious and well-priced. the service was great and the staff in the reception extremely helpful and friendly.
the bus just outside took us to Victoria station for the train to Gatwick airport. the hotel also offered free transport to the nearest underground station.

we will certainly recommend this hotel to friends.

This was a really underwhelming experience from start to finish! On arrival, in the car, there is no one to greet you or any signage to say where to park. We therefore drove round the hotel twice before i got out and went to reception!

The staff were all pleasant however looked terrified any time you asked a question. Every time we spoke to one we weren't filled with much confidence.

The room - we got off to a bad start as the lights didn't work so we needed to go down to reception to get the key card re authorized. The room itself is just so strange. If ever there was an example of miss-used space it was this! As you enter the room there is a large empty space with nothing in it, not even a chair. You then go round the corner into a small area where the bed is. The bed itself was no more than a double either. The bathroom is needlessly huge especially when you consider there wasn't even a bath tub in it!

The 'spa' - Don't even bother yourself with this. A hydro pool does little to excuse the lack of a swimming pool. the Jacuzzi is tiny, the sauna smaller and we didn't even bother with the steam room. It was uncomfortably small and we didn't we relaxed afterwards.

The Restaurant - Good food, good service but a real lack of atmosphere. Not even any back ground music. Thankfully we only used it as a quick option as we had to get out to a friends engagement drinks.

The taxi service - We had a good laugh with the driver. I was however left with a bitter taste in my mouth as the price of £10 for a 4 minute journey across the bridge was twice the amount we had paid 2 hours earlier with a black cab to EXACTLY the same place. I didn't mention anything but just another thing that was noted.

Room service - what room service? we returned from our evening out and fancied something to eat. We tried calling down 3 times but got no response each time. Granted it was 2am but I've never known this to be a problem for a 5* star hotel especially as it is advertised as 24 hours.

To conclude - if this had been a 4* hotel I still would have been underwhelmed but I would have accepted it. I honestly can not see where the 5* rating came from. I like to put everything in perspective but if something markets itself as 5* then that is what you should get. Alarm bells should have started ringing when I noticed they offer rooms from £119. Ask yourself this - where in London can you honestly expect to get a 5* hotel for this price!? The answer is obvious....you can't.

Room Tip: Ask to see the rooms first!

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review regarding your stay with us. The nature of your comments therein seems to be more based on a personal sense of aesthetics, choice and social behavior, and is therefore a little misdirected.

We respond to all our customers who post negative reviews and say sorry and explain our position and our mistakes. We do make them and we admit them. We may be repeating ourselves but we have to do so for the benefit of all who visit us in this forum.

We are a small hotel of 65 rooms and we do portray ourselves as a small hotel. The building itself is in the shape of a boomerang, thus every room in the building is different in size and shape. It has won many awards and is located in an upcoming area of Battersea.

The average size of our hotel rooms is 280 square feet, amongst the largest of any hotel in London. You mention that you found our bathrooms to be needlessly huge. Our bathrooms have been intentionally designed to be large and spacious, because we think bathrooms in hotels should be spacious and should provide luxury. The design demands that the size of the rooms and corridors are spacious too. We offer 5 different room categories clearly defined to make it easier to select a room which would suit your preferences. All these rooms are categorised because of the size, location and amenities on offer. Our records indicate that you have stayed in the lowest category of room which obviously is the smallest.

As far as our young staff is concerned, they are well trained in hospitality and customer care, and respond instantly to any guest requirement. With all due respect, you have again expressed a personal opinion on their capabilities.

With regard to your comments about our spa, our spa consists of a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, gym and resistance pool covering an area of nearly 2000 square feet. These are additional facilities than you cannot find in most London hotels, provided free of charge for our hotel guests. The wet areas are concentrated on 350 square feet. Our Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna are 3.5 square metres each in area and are designed to accommodate four people at a time, which we find adequate given the fact that the spa is available primarily for hotel guests and remains empty for large parts of the day.

We are glad to note that you enjoyed our food and services in the restaurant. ‘Banyan on the Thames’ is one of the rare busy restaurants in Battersea. We are sorry if the background music was not on when you visited the ‘Banyan’. We have a limited Room Service Menu operated 24 hours a day. Our reception and kitchen is manned throughout the day and night and we are very surprised that there was no response when you called. However, we are sorry once again.

With regard to your taxi journey, we believe that each taxi company has their minimum fares. However, £10 for a journey across the bridge seems correct and here again we are surprised that you managed to get one earlier, at half the price.

Our rates are what one would pay for a 3-star hotel across the river. However, our customers enjoy 5-star amenities for that price. Hence our slogan “affordable luxury.” This certainly does not mean we try to create a false impression of being the best, but focus on ways and means to maximize guest comfort and experience. Then again, people are entitled to their opinions and choices...

We thank you for your patronage.

Kind Regards
The Management
