Owner description: The Courtauld Gallery is one of the finest small museums in the world. Its collection stretches from the early Renaissance into the 20th century and is particularly renowned for the unrivalled collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. The Gallery also holds an outstanding collection of drawings and prints and fine example of sculpture and decorative arts.

I went to this gallery with my two teenage children(15 and 18) last Saturday. The children had free admission and for adults the entrance fee is £6.There was a wonderful exhibition of the works Mondrian and Nicholson (included in the entrance fee) and the main galleries have some stunning Impressionist masterpieces. The galleries were spacious and well laid out-and not crowded. The Institute is in the beautiful grounds of Somerset House and there are some nice coffee shops where you can also pick up lunch. The gallery is a real gem and seems to be under the radar of most tourists. A real treat and excellent value!

The Courtauld and the neighbouring Somerset House rank as the one of the best visits in London. The Courtauld art collection is beautifully displayed, it's eclectic in some respects and also contains enough contemporary classics to keep things fresh. The gallery's managers continually work hard at setting up interesting shows which are comprehensive and unique. I'm in London several times a year and also visit the Courtauld. It never fails to please.

So few visitors know about the Courtauld - but it really is a little gem of an art museum.
