A gem. We'll worth a visit. This was a last minute find. It has some very well known works. It only took an hour or so for the visit but it was worth the time. We even stayed for afternoon tea in the cafe. Very nice

“Some Wonderful |Pictures”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

We visited after seeing the RA summer show. What a contrast. There are some terrific impressionist paintings. The gallery is quiet and the staff helpful. There is also a nice café in Somerset House

“Wonderful Gallery”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

You'll find The Courtauld just off The Strand. It has gorgeous Impressionists as well as some beautiful altar pieces. Don't miss the Cezanne's upstairs. Once you're finished at the gallery, step inside the courtyard to enjoy the fountains and a glass of wine. It was rejuvenating to see the children frolicking and laughing.

It is years since I've been to the Courtauld. After looking at some installations in the lobby, I walked across the square which has a lovely water feature (50 dancing water fountains) and into the Institute. On the ground floor I wandered around looking at amazing Icon, beautifully carved boxes and carvings before moving on through Gainsborough's and other old Masters before going upstairs and reaching a world class display of Impressionist paintings. They were so beautiful I was close to tears. And they aren't fenced off so you can get up close enough to see how the artists actually made their masterpieces.

The galleries were nicely air conditioned but the lighting on some of the pictures reflected making it difficult to see the paintings properly.

All in all a wonderful display.

“Loved It!”

This small gallery is incredible! Several Seurat paintings and sketches as well as Renoir, and lots of Monet/Manets. Good rounded assortment of incredible IMPRESSIONIST artists!
