Well worth the visit, a wonderful selection of art from many genres in a gallery not overcrowded by sightseers and a wonderful venue in Somerset house. The impressionist paintjng were wonderful and the self portrait of Van Gogh was a highlight as was the Degas painting of 2 dancers. Allow at least 2 hours- there is plenty to see. Loved the ceilings as well!

Someone told me of this gallery as I had never heard of it. Very few tourists and some stunningly beautiful paintings in a lovely setting. Highly recommended.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the temporary 'rude boy' and 'tattoo' exhibits were eclectic and well curated. I had a lovely time at the Courtald!

I am, unfortunately, not in London as often as I would like, but whenever I am the Courtauld is on my visiting list. This collection is a jewel. It is small enough to be enjoyed in couple of hours, beautifully displayed, well signed, never crowded, and includes many well-loved paintings. The impressionists are perhaps the best known, but don't skip the other rooms where there are many priceless gems.
The wall mounted descriptions beside each painting on display are very good, but a headset with recorded information would make a visit even more interesting.
The downstairs courtyard restaurant is quiet and pleasant, especially when the weather allows sitting outdoors. I found the food delicious.
The shop is the final gem here. I recommend buying the DVD by Tim Marlow called, "The Courtauld" (what else?) which lets you take a little bit of the Courtauld home with you, fills you in with interesting information about some of the art on display, and whets your appetite for your next visit.

Impressionists .. the arrangements were all logical and in sequence. Explanations for the various paintings were well written. Not crowded, easy to maneuver and study the art.
