“Excellent rooms and location, but disappointing food and service.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2012

The rooms are excellent - bathroom has both bath and separate shower. They are immaculately clean, modern, lighting is great. The bed was huge, with a really comfortable mattress. The rooms really can't be faulted.

The location is also great - just a stone's throw from Westminster, London Eye etc.

However, the service is pretty poor. When I arrived to check-in there were four staff working on reception and all were serving someone, but with only one person ahead of me in the queue I thought it wouldn't take long. I was wrong - it took over 20 minutes to check-in, everything was just incredibly slow and I really don't know why.

The worst thing about this hotel though was the breakfast. It's £21.50 EACH - costing more than their three course lunch. For that price I expected something excellent - and it isn't. Firstly you have to queue to get in - and it's not because there are no seats. Despite having four staff at the doorway, only one of them is allowed to check people off the list - at the same time as taking payments for breakfast from people leaving the restaurant, storing luggage, finding luggage etc. The room where the breakfast is served is very dark- probably nice for dinner, but not great for breakfast. Tea and coffee is brought round in big jugs, eventually. The hot breakfast ingredients are of good quality - but there are quite a few things you have to ask for and wait for if you want them. The buffet area is very small, there is a permanent queue for the toaster, no real bread choice, not enough cutlery, the list goes on. I have had far better breakfasts in cheap chain hotels for a third of the price. I would recommend saving your money and going out to a local cafe.

We tried out the bar and the service here was very good, even though it was extremely busy. There are plenty of other hotels nearby that we will try out first before we think of returning here.

Thank you for your review KTnSue, it’s been a while since you visited us and I’m please to say that we’re making great progress on the concerns mentioned in your review, especially breakfast.

For your next trip we have a number of great options for breakfast, best of all is the Executive Lounge package at £39 per room per night (2 sharing) which includes 2 breakfasts, tea and coffee all day, full afternoon tea and then canapés and drinks from a full bar until 8pm. Keep an eye out on our website for the Park Plaza package and you may even get this for £25. Another option is the Illy Espressamente coffee shop on the ground floor, similar in style and price to a Prêt or a Starbucks.

As per my previous correspondence, I do hope you’ll be able to return to us soon to enjoy our improved service.

Regards,
Hasham Soliman

Checking in late afternoon there was a long wait as they were so busy. The free internet is great for business travellers. The bed wis one of the best I have slept in. The only let down was the cost of the breakfast which was more than adequate but not great. I will stay again if I am in London

Thanks MIkeheart, glad you enjoyed our comfy beds.

Sorry to note you were disappointed with breakfast, please note some options for your next visit, we are more than happy to prepare items at your request and I’m sure you’ve read some of the recent reviews on the great value of the Executive Lounge package at £39 per person which includes two breakfasts, tea and coffee all day, full afternoon tea and then canapés and drinks from a full bar until 8pm. Keep an eye out on our website for the park Plaza package and you may even get this for £25. Another option is the Illy Espressemente coffee shop on the ground floor, similar in style and price to a Prêt or a Starbucks, as well as breakfast via room service with no tray charge.

Stayed at the Park Plaza for 3 nights in the studio suite - iconic view. The hotel is only a couple of years old and is located just across the Westminster bridge from the Parliament buildings, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. Westminster subway and the London Eye is a quick 5 minute walk. Lots of restaurants close by inlcuding McD, Starbucks, Ned's Noodle box and Yo Sushi if you are on a tight budget. Across the bridge you can grab a cheap sandwich at Tesco Express.

Warning: Watch out for the 3 card monty/cup game scam set up in the early evening on Westminster Bridge.

Room Tip: Studio room with iconic view was worth the splurge. Seperate living room with TV and sofa

What a great hotel and great location. Had a wonderful bar with great entertainment. Service was good in the bar but at the front desk, the person checking us in was borderline rude and when I asked if there was an ATM close by, he only mentioned the one in the hotel, even though I asked for a Bank ATM close by. Turns out there were plenty in Waterloo Station which was two blocks away. We had a two room Studio which was very spacious and a very nice and spacious bathroom.

Here is the rub - there were six hangers in the closet and two drawers that were 8 inches high 12 inches wide and 12 inches deep to store your clothes. We were on a 26 day trip through London 8 days and the Continent for the remainder. It would have been nice to be able to lay out and hang up our clothes so they would be better for the rest of the trip. Had to live our of our suitcases.

Room Tip: Ask what storage (closet, drawers) is available in your room. I don't think paying for a room w...

Had an excellent stay for my boyfriend's birthday last week, our room was upgraded and we were on the10th floor with amazing views. Service was very quick and the hotel bar served lovely cocktails. Only negative I could find was the shower leaked into the bathroom floor, but other than that no other complaints. Rebooked for December

Room Tip: Ask for a floor higher up to take in the views of London
