We stayed here from Sept. 24 - 29, 2013 in room 504 which is an executive room. I selected the hotel based on price and past experience with Hotel Indigo in the USA and it's unique boutique style along with the seemingly reasonable access to everything a tourist would want to do. Having never been in London it's hard to decide but we do tend to want to be away from a city center and the major tourist areas. This location couldn't have been better. It is a business area and doesn't have the old historic feel of some areas or the street plantings but we weren't planning on being here most of the day.
As everyone says, easy access to the underground and ease of use was great. Anywhere you stay you will need to use transportation to get around since the places you want to go, if you are there more than a night, will be scattered around the city. In fact the hop on, hop off boat stop is an easy walk to the river.
I loved Starbucks being just 2 short blocks up the street. With dollars loaded on my phone app I could buy quick oatmeal (porridge) and coffee letting them convert to pounds at the current rate with no fees. Wow! That's just a side note in case you have a pre-loaded card. It works here.
Of course the free minibar in our room was fabulous. You never have to worry about being hungry or thirsty in your room and having to run out to buy something. No alcohol of course but there is enough room in the fridge for some of your own stuff, too. Nespresso - just like at home. Ask for an extra caffeinated pod if you need it as just one of each is supplied. Minibar is replenished during housekeeping service. We had nightly turn down service, too.
Our executive room was a nice size with 2 sinks in the bathroom. Sorry I forgot to take pictures of the bathroom but you can glimpse one sink in one of my room photos. No, there is no counter around the sinks but there is a floor to ceiling bank of shelving between the sinks that holds everything from the towels to all of our stuff with room to spare. The open shower was a nice feature for me. The shower stays cleaner, dry and fresh when not in use. Throwing the towels on the floor around the shower when finished sops up any overspray. The only improvement needed in the entire hotel would be the bathroom lighting directly beside the mirror. There is none which makes it hard for women to do makeup. My husband didn't notice. :) Otherwise the lighting in the entire room was nice and plentiful. There were plenty of outlets for charging devices.
And YES, the free wifi worked great. You will need your 6 digit user name and password given to you on a card. Although there is a save log in information button at log in, when you leave the hotel it will still require you to log in again the next to you return. You need a different number for each device. We needed 4 numbers - 2 devices each. We never had slow or unavailable service. Pictures were email - whoosh - just like that. This is a huge bonus for our of country travelers with locked phones and no international plan or local sim card.
The king size bed was very comfortable although the pillows were a bit flattish. We got an extra pillow each to fix that. The closet is spacious. There are drawers for clothes. Two bathrobes and slippers are suppled. Air conditioner worked perfectly and I like to make it cold. Modern, immaculately clean and perfectly maintained property.
A huge bonus for us was the free LA Fitness access. This is WAY superior to any hotel fitness center/gym. This is full access and it's just a short walk away. The gym staff were very welcoming and supply you with a lock for the lockers and a towel for your sweat. All the machines are in excellent condition. TVs are closed caption with no headphone capability. Any cardio equipment you need is available including ergometers. Hotel Indigo will give you sufficient passes for each visit you make to the gym. There just isn't any place to jog safely in the city so this was so great.
There are launderettes close by - 20 minutes walk or so. Go to the one over the bridge - a bit farther away - but much more comfortable location. We went to the one on our side of the bridge in an unfamiliar location and didn't feel comfortable waiting around for it to open.
I saved the best for last. The hotel staff is incredible. Human Resources is to be commended for their excellent hiring practices. Every single person at reception is especially hospitable and well suited for their jobs. Cheerful, friendly, professional, helpful, I can't say enough. Special recognition goes to Giusi (pronounced pretty much like juicy in English) from Italy who checked us in and was so very helpful in orienting us to all the hotel offered. We actually felt bad to have to say goodbye to her. We enjoyed seeing her each day.
If we ever go back to London, this is definitely where we will be staying, unless of course there is no availability now that the secret is out. Did I say I love this hotel?
