We ate here on a Saturday evening on a visit to london to see my daughter and her boyfriend. Bar Boulod was a good choice as the food is excellent and presentation and service are both very good. A full three course dinner with wine (ignoring the burgers which were relatively cheap) is certainly expensive (especially to those of us who do not live in London) but it is top quality food and portions surprisingly generous. Starters were excellent Aioli Seafood Classique, Seared Prawns which were fantastic, and Tunisiienne Lamb Merguez Sausage which was very good. Mains were beautifully cooked Coq au Vin (good value at £23), Rib Eye which my daugher raved about (and at £32 excluding a side dish I should hope so!) and smoked lamb which was really very good. We had extra side dishes - truffle mash, fries, potatoes lyonnaise, green beans and spinach and all were good although we probably ordered too much and at £4-£5 each it is easy to rack up additional costs. Puddings were excellent - Chocotier (gorgeous with an extra scoop of vanilla ice-cream) and Croc Blond. Bar Boulod has an amazing wine list stretching to 28 pages and ranging from £22.50 to £18000! At the lower end of the range we enjoyed St Veran white burgundy (£38) and a Cotes du Rhone Village (£42) both of which were very good and not ridiculously priced and "House" bottled sparkling water at £4 was very reasonable. Service was excellent and our waiter was informative, helpful and efficient without being overly fussy. The whole atmosphere was good and much less pretentious than I had feared, given its location within the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. We had a really enjoyable dining experience and could definitely recomend Bar Boulod, especially if you wanted somewhere for a special occasion that serves excellent, albiet expensive, food, while still retaining a relaxed atmosphere.
